Winter storm Jonas is brewing on the East Coast and is projected to start dumping snow and freezing rain on Friday night. So you should run to the store and buy bread and milk, right? Wrong. Bread and milk expire pretty quickly and require refrigeration. They're also pretty light on the nutrients and won't keep you satiated and supplemented as you ride out the weather. The trick is to buy foods that don't won't expire quickly or need to be refrigerated. Gossner brand milk! Love it. I buy lots of it at Dollar Tree, where it’s $1 per quart, so it’s no more expensive than regular milk. One year shelf life.

I grew up with Pinon pine wood. The smell is unique and delicious.
I’m aware of some of that. I’ve gotten into some pretty hard nosed arguments with some people over guns. I will be publishing a book within the next month or so on Amazon about my early years when I learned to hunt. I expect to be condemned but don’t care, because I love firearms, and they have added much to my life.
Land closure really bothers me. I’ve taken a stand against the EPA overstepping and all their excuses which are intolerable. It is all a part of Agenda 21 which aims to reduce humanity to a few cities beside railroads with stack and pack living conditions turning over all the rest of the land to “nature.” It’s all BS to control the world and I will fight it to the end of my days.
It goes back to the 70’s. ‘78 i think, but could be earlier. people had better wise up and stop being so complacent.

After reading your post I just tested the 1/2 gallon of whole milk I bought on December 17. It is still good. Will finish it off on cereal tomorrow. And bread certainly lasts longer than a week. I date dang near everything; if perishable by the day and otherwise with month/year.
I’ve often asked female friends what they would do if they had to kill a chicken, pluck it, clean it, and make a pot of chicken soup, or starve. They would rather go without food! “UGH, I couldn’t do it,” is the usual answer.I usually spring it on them when they fuss with me for killing “those poor little innocent ducks,” or pheasants, quail, or whatever. Have heard it all my life. Am immune.
Fill up your Jeep with gas. Leave your car in the garage until Spring time.

Sorry, but I eat a wedge of avocado or more every day. You have to know how to choose them and they last more than a couple of days before starting toward overripe at which point make some guacamole.
....but you’re right about canned soup. Make a big batch and freeze some.

The car chest works great during the summertime when we take trips or even need to make a few stops after shopping to pick up perishables.
The porch chest works great during the wintertime and holiday when we need a little extra fridge space for company.
Both of them will buy us at least an extra day should the electricity go off. Both cost us under $30 each just by buying them off-season. We also keep a lot of high protein canned food on hand which can be eaten cold if necessary (tuna, pasta, MREs) but taste a lot better if I can fire up the outdoor grill and heat them.
