Bengals intercept a pass to seal the game. Promptly fumble it back to the Steelers. Then commit 30 yards of penalties in the final seconds to allow Pittsburgh the game-winning chip shot field goal.
There's no outrage because it was completely legal. Once a receiver takes two steps and turns he's a running back, and not protected. And the reason he's not protected is because at that point many of them lower their heads, just as running backs do.
Not my team. Tired of the NFL falling apart. My team has plenty of rings.
Normally like the steelers, but not too impressed with the current group Coaches on the field and pulling hair. Player cheap shots. not to mention James Harrison still hanging around, despite his dirty hit history, Great player but the most infamous dirty hitter of the current era.
When the day started was torn on who to win, but was hoping for a Bengal win after their comeback. Then, the sudden faux outrage of the day.
You weren’t paying much attention to the game if you thought the Steelers were outplayed at the end. The truth was, nearly all of the Bungals yardage on the last two drives were awarded by the refs, and were not earned. In addition to that, the Bengals should never have had the lead. The refs whistled a fumble dead that the Steelers took to the house, which would have made it 22-0.
The veteran ref that the announcers go to told everyone in the country that Shazier's hit was legal -- and it was. Receivers are not protected from helmet contact any more than any other ball carrier once they've made a football move and taken two steps.
A legal hit, and the Steelers were cheated of 7 points.
Idiotic Steeler fans explain how u think the final penalties were fine on Cincy but Steelers got screwed on fumble touchdown in Shaziers helmet to helmet hit that was most blatant of game and not called a penalty? At least be consistent or logical. Not a Bengal or Steeler fan but that game was horribly officiated and Pitt got more of the breaks. Denver will beat them next week, just as NE would have beaten Cincy so at end of day it was one night of drama and I won money on game.
A couple things needed noted from the post game...
After time ran out, the CBS sideline reporterette was trying to interview Ben...after about 20’seconds of interview, Coach Tomlin and at least three Cincinnati Police officers jog into the camera shot and Tomlin tells Roethlisberger he needs to “get off the field.”
He does.
On the local CBS station (kdka) a male sports reporter got to James Harrison as he was getting off the field. 92 was told (by someone I coaching staff) to also get off the field...and to put his helmet back on (as he approached the tunnel to the locker room.
I have NEVER seen (or heard!) those types of warnings (and escorts) given to players ON THE FIELD. And i grew up during the Steeler Raider rivalry.
If the NFL declines in ratings and popularity—this game will be considered the beginning of the end.
Ugly.
Helmet contact per se is not illegal. As a matter of fact, you will see helmet-to-helmet contact on just about every running play in the league, because ball carriers dip their heads in anticipation of a hit. They do this both to punish the defenders and to protect their necks.
Because of that behavior, the NFL has never said helmet contact with ball carriers is illegal.
Once a receiver takes two steps he is a ball carrier, and is no longer protected as a "defenseless player."
Your claim about Burfict is nonsense as well. Burfict was three steps away from Brown when the ball went over his head. In the NFL players launching at QB's and receivers are permitted ONE AND A HALF STEPS, anything further away than that it's expected that the defender has time to pull up. Doesn't matter when Brown came down, all that matters is how far away Burfict was when it became clear that the ball was uncatchable. He had plenty of time. He's a POS who goes out of his way to injure other players.
They also threw garbage on Roethlisberger as he was being taken to the locker room on the cart. So, evidently, the fans deserve the team they've got.
I was telling my wife the same thing.
Marvin Lewis has to be the stupidest head coach in the NFL.
He needs to reel in his idiot players.
Not the first time that the Bengals defense has all but ruined a game with out of control tempers.
I hope that Berfect has a VERY sleepless night.
His name is Mudd in Cincy.
What a loser.
Hate the Steelers, but with a bunch of thugs on the Bengals, they deserved everything that came their way.
All the Bengals needed to do was play clean for the last minute.
They couldn't even manage THAT.
Shazier’s helmet hit was NOT illegal. Please learn the rules and stop making a fool of yourself.
Hard to see how Pittsburgh “got more of the breaks” when they were cheated out of 7 points.
Does NOT get called once the receiver has possession and taken two steps, super clueless fan.
Oh I was and you can bet my husband was paying attention. The Steelers defense sucks.
I watched the game. They would have lost if not for those two thugs and their penalties. We’re a Steelers family and this game was painful, as many were this season.
I just hate that the game I love to watch is now primarily played by thugs.
As a Bengals fan I’ll make no excuses for them. They deserved to lose.
Wish I had a dollar for each time I heard that term used tonight in reference to the game.
Yes, and the key word is “defenseless.” If he has secured the ball and made a “football move” which includes taking two or more steps, he is subject to the same rules as a running back. Burfict and Jones both made hits on defenseless receivers. Shazier did NOT. That’s the whole difference.
Cut the arrogant BS or learn how to read, Mr. Z. I was not talking about Burfict, but about Brown. Thanks.
McCarron was 21/43 for 212 yards. That's terrible in the NFL. The Bengals managed only 78 yards on the ground. The Steeler defense took a fumble to the end zone, only to have it improperly called back by the refs. The Steeler defense had only one lapsed play -- admittedly a big one -- for the last touchdown. The other two Bengal scores were entirely fueled by penalties.
The Steelers' much maligned defense did just fine.
Burfict’s hit was on Brown. Please do try to keep up with your own posts.
