The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

As for us we get flooded in once or twice a year, usually for no more than a day but sometimes three so we're ready for it and since there's no work commute it's not a bother other than dealing with minor landscape issues.
But it can happen so fast here I always pray for those close to rivers. They can get hammered pretty bad.
I made my first pizza crust based on a Good Eats episode. I totally nailed it. NOT an easy process, but it turned out wonderful. Since then I’ve tried several times, but haven’t come close. Stupid $1 premade crust at the local Walmart market works every time.

I have a LOT to learn, but I’m looking forward to it. I figure we’ve got a good 20 years left in us to tackle this; time’s a-wastin’!

Good Morning johnny, Nothing is better than a nap with rain falling on the roof. So soothing.
I found some leather that I haven't seen in at least 25 years.
So I'm making a holster for my .38.
I never liked any of the store-bought holsters.

Oh golly, I need to clean our garage. I’m going to remove all the slap happy shelves and make straight long shelves, then arrange according to category. I can’t stand stuff just slap happy, it’s too easy to lose things. I’m a nit picker and when things aren’t where they belong.......hits the fan. Then I can put up the grow lamps, get potting soil and seeds ready to meet one another.
When I was a kid, I got a 22 on my fifth birthday, in Alaska it wasn’t unusual. We learned to respect it by cleaning and keep it hung in the front closet after use. Dad had a fellow in British Columbia make deer hide bags for our guns. Also for his holster, my brother has it now, loves it. Yes, homemade is always softer and better made. I think youngest sis has Mom’s.
What kind of covering is that? Do you have a link for it?
How do you sterilize the tomato cages and do you still have disease? My plants suffer a late blight and not much I can do about it due to our close proximity to Humboldt Bay and cool night temperature.
My hubby dried a bunch a year back, but they didn’t seem to get REALLY dried out no matter how long they were in the dehydrator. I think he is going to grind them for powder, but for now they are in vac bags. I didn’t even think about grated cheese on them. Hummm. I’ll tell you where I screwed up - I neglected to note what each type of plant was, but I did pull a great example from each to bring to seed stock. One of them was beautifully meaty. Not the huge ones though.
This brand is called Remay and there may be a couple of others. I bought a 250 foot roll several years ago and reuse it over and over until it falls apart. It’s main purpose is to protect plants from various critters and raise the temperature under it a couple of degrees.
I’ve got ‘cover’ too but yours looks different than mine. I got the ginormous roll too. Much more economical and lets me cut it the size I need/want.
The odd weather continues. Hard ice on the vehicles the other morning, frost on the ground everywhere, but not a bit of damage to Mrs. Augie’s flowers or the tomato plants out in the garden.
The only thing I can figure is there was so much moisture in the air it froze on the plants before the air temp got cold enough to do any damage. Maybe somebody smarter than me can speak to that?
Dropped my trailer off at the sawmill this morning. It was the only empty trailer on the lot so it ought to be loaded by next Saturday.
It’s too slimy to work in the pond right now, so I’ll spend a few hours tomorrow digging holes and setting fence posts.
I’ve been dehydrating tomato slices sprinkled with various spices and parmesan. Very tasty and a good way to use up end of the season tomatoes.

Got to stay with it and get the blood pressure under control, and the good cholesterol up.
Took my grand daughter to the Halloween Fest at the Town Square. Had a good time visiting with her friend’s mom. Had a little rain before hand, but it stopped just in time for the festival. A little cool, but a light jacket was enough.
