Shroud Of Turin DNA Indicates Global Origins
The Huffington Post ^ | October 19, 2015 | Lee Speigel

There's a surprising new wrinkle in the story of the celebrated Shroud of Turin.

A group of Italian researchers have found that the 14-foot-long garment -- believed by some to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, even though science has proven that's not the case -- contains DNA from plants found all over Earth.

The subheading to the article is ...

Genetic material suggests the shroud may have been created in India.

Closest analogue imaging process that comes to mind is "Dye Sublimation" Printing, wherein the dye is vaporized from one surface by intense, localized, patterned heat -- and the resulting dye vapor condenses only on the surface of the material being printed.

Makes sense to me...

Soapwort is also known as fuller’s herb because the textile industry once used it as a fulling (cleaning and sizing) agent.

There are several Biblical references to fulling (2 Kings 18:17; Isaiah 7:3 and 36:2; Malachi 3:2; Mark 9:3).

Someone should ask HuffPoo’s science editor if scientists have determine WHEN life begins yet?

What “science” is it that studies whether things have something to do with Jesus or not? “Something-to-do-with-Jesus-ology”?

That bogus 1988 carbon-dating has been declared, at least 10,000 times, to “prove” that the Shroud is a “painting,” a “Medieval forgery,” and other things that have been shown fifty different ways the Shroud cannot possibly be.

It’s called “intellectual dishonesty.” It’s a common trait among people who are shacked-up, committing sodomy, etc., and don’t want to think about Jesus.

Hufpo lies!

“even though science has proven that’s not the case”

uh...no they haven’t, they sampled a once repaired cornered and some pretend that’s conclusive.

I wonder how many more articles there are about the Shroud than there are articles about the teachings of Jesus?

I remember talking to an older man in S. Korea who was a former slave in Japan when one of the atomic bombs was dropped. He had his back towards ground zero during the brilliant flash of light and heat. The pattern of a denim shirt he had on was “tatooed” into his back. He raised his shirt up and showed me.

“.. Almost like a recording of a dematerialization into pure light...”

One of the physicists that worked on the Shroud figured it was a “singularity” or something. Like a mini “Big Bang” event. Which in my mind is interesting, as I think part of the Resurrection was to bring about the New Creation.

That's a good question. I don't believe it is authentic, because I believe Jesus wanted us to live by faith. He spoke out against those who always needed a sign and knew that such things would become idols of worship.

It is an interesting artifact, but just because we don't know how it was made, doesn't mean it is authentic. We don't know how the pyramids were built and couldn't build them today with their precision but that doesn't mean that they are anything Divine.

The image is not created from a dye or pigment. The film of soapwort on the surface of the linen has been caramelized in a dot-matrix pattern to form the image. Heat alone could not cause this as there is no evidence of scorching in the fibers of the cloth.

Great analogy!

~~~~~~~~
I put little if any stock in the Turin cloth being the actual shroud of Jesus.
~~~~~~~~

However, as a "gedanken" (thought) experiment, consider this:

1) Bodies in Jesus' time were washed and coated ("annointed") with perfumed oils.

2) A cloth is placed in proximity to the body, covering it.

3) The body, itself, totally disappears in a flash of energy.

4) The oils (or their residue) vaporize and travel at speed toward the cloth surface.

5) Following the inverse square law, cloth closest to the body gets the densest (darkest) coating of the condensing material; areas farther away (opposite eye sockets, for example) get proportionally lighter coatings.

Voila! -- a negative image -- only on the surface of the cloth fibers...

~~~~~~~~~~~
That's an analogue of "Dye Sublimation Printing"...
Reference re the "caramelization" of the soapwort and, especially of the digital ("dot matrix") nature of the print, please...
I provided a possible analog (not digital) explanation of a molecular coating being projected from a shaped surface, (the body) and producing a 3-D, continuous tone (not half-tone, as you describe) negative image.
But, then, I'm just a believer in Christ, who is also a physical chemist with a background in digital (and analog) imaging at semiconductor scales...
References...?
The 1988 C-14 Carbon Dating did nothing of the kind. It accurately dated a sample that unfortunately broke the agreed to protocols so that what was dated was not guaranteed to be what they THOUGHT they were dating. Instead of dating a sample of the Shroud of Turin, they dated a sample that was a mixture of original Shroud of Turin material PLUS seventeenth Century Cotton that had been woven into the original threads to patch a worn section. The amount of cotton that was added, at least 40%-60% by weight of much newer carbon, was enough to skew the dating by over a thousand years. The C-14 date of 1350 AD that was announced by the team who dated the Shroud sample has been falsified by this finding.
However, how do you account for the vertical collimation of the image? There is literally zero aberration from the vertical that would occur with any gaseous diffusion as such a scenario would require. Gas does not operate in such a manner.
In addition, it is recorded in the Bible they did not have time to wash and anoint Jesus' body before the Sabbath began, and that was what the women were on their way to do on Sunday morning when they discovered the stone rolled away.
Such a diffusion as you propose would diffuse into the fibers, not just onto the surface as well. . . as would any gaseous material.
The other problem also is that such a diffusion would leave residues that would be traceable with a micro-X-ray spectrograph. . . and there simply is none. We are talking about a device that could find the traces of the vinyl baggies the thread samples were carried to the test lab in, and was so sophisticated it could tell from those traces what company made those baggies by the composition of those chemical traces!
