A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

They possibly built the railroad on a roadbed of oyster shells.

Somehow, in all the goings on here, I missed this post from you.

The cancer-gene suppressor should have done its job by the end
of the year, and the gene will not regenerate itself.

The estrogen suppressor will take five years.

Bobbie is feeling much better today, but she didn’t eat all her
wet-food breakfast.

She prefers the dry food, so it’s all right for her to eat that.

All the Royal Canin food formulas are renal friendly, dry and wet.

Good morning. Jake is doing okay this morning, although he still has a fever. When the vet opens at 8:00, I’ll make him an appointment for later in the day.

Thursday squee is ....squee.
The little pink noses made my head explode.,

I had the strangest dream last night. I was dreaming of President Reagan and kittehs. I found this. Maybe the chickadees will be interested.

Strange how our current president doesn’t have a cat. I wonder why.

Morning kittehs. They help when one has already been awake for two hours. My eyelids are heavy, but my brain is in high gear.

I was hoping to sleep longer so I would feel like doing everything I had planned to do today, but that’s not going to happen. I will go to Walmart and the doctor and try for the laundry again tomorrow. (Story of my life with CFIDS.)

Come to think of it, my friend said these other places have washer and dryer hook-ups... That alone would be worth the move.

And in view of the information yesterday about management being able to snoop electronically, I doubt that I will wait too long to try and find another place to live. It’s just not a pleasant thought.

Good Morning The Old Lady.

Thank you for your update. I’ll be so happy when your chemo is over, and you can go back to feeling like you again.

I’m going to have to google estrogen suppressor.

Hurray for Bobbie eating! Ceiling Cat listened to my prayers. Thank you,, Ceiling Cat.

I HAVE to go to the doctor because her office help screwed things up when I called about my bleeding ulcers. They were supposed to order a CBC and they ordered a lipid profile, urinalysis and something else, so I had to go back the next week for the CBC. And they were supposed to order a referral to gastro, but didn’t do that, either. Not that I’m excited about that, it has to be done.

So I have to see her. And no I won’t miss it.

73 and windy... What can I say? Long sleeves feel good this morning!

It must be about time for me to head for Walmart.

I just noticed...the top bulb in my Galileo is at the top of the glass...it means for the first time in four months, it’s cooler than 84 in here! :o]

The A/C hasn’t come on since last night some time.

FYI: The earthquake in Chile is why I slept through the night. The last time I did that was when Busdaddy’s mother passed away.

Good. I’m glad you didn’t have to wait all day to take him in. Poor little bully. I hope he heals quickly.

*hug* to Jake.
