The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
Sionnsar is the first name on my ping list, and will always remain there. In fact, my name was first on his ping list. We were good friends.
I met Sionnsar several times, as he came here to conduct seminars, and we really had good times. I even gave him the Misguided tour of the Strip, and we had several nice meals in different places.
After Sionnsar passed away, his widow brought me his little commuter truck, saying he would want me to have it. So I have occasion to think of him every day.
And Libre ou Mort spent a couple of days with me when she was moving from Puget Sound to AZ, so I know her quite well, too. She is every bit as much fun as he was!
And yes, I miss him. And wish I were closer to LoM!
Both my old Dells where made in Eire.
The Intel and Dell factories where opposite sides of the road.
Cool! But see, you bought things made in your own country and that’s what I like to do! <3
Archipelago , but not country.
Eire escaped in 1926.
Shame the rest of us in the UK didn’t follow suit, London could manage on its own.
Our family is just Bryan and me, no kids. I am sterile.
We have four cats, and we love them very much.
So, thank you so much for your prayers for us.
Prayers are always welcome, reciprocated, and very
much appreciated.
Everywhere.
I’m an anglephile.
Obtuse, acute, right, complimentary, supplimentary. I love ‘em all.
Every one of those towns named by the locals is a form of “what did you say?” It was what the locals replied when the English asked very slowly and loudly, “What do you call this place?”
Actually, only one debate is on tonight. For some reason the American public likes to refer to a debate in the plural.
Maybe to hide the fact that they were watching DWTS instead of preparing to vote for the most powerful office in the world.
I don’t know how a cancer gene can come back if it’s eliminated. I think maybe the odds would be a trillion to one?
I’m sure the doctor knows best. I thought the chemo was over this month. I’m so sorry it’s on til December. .
As for Bobbie, I’ll send good thoughts to her and prayers. You know how much I love cats and I don’t want to see them suffer or to see you hurt either.
Ceiling Caf, look after Bobbie and The Old Lady.
I will go to Walmart early, and by the time I get back from the doctor’s, I will feel like I’ve done a day’s work.
Today, I surprised myself by taking a shower, doing the dishes, sorting the laundry (finally!) and mopping the kitchen floor, since my aide’s visit is postponed another week.
The World Problem Solvers found a problem they couldn’t solve today. It seems our new lease contains a couple of pages about agreeing to allow the management to snoop into our bank accounts and backgrounds electronically, to make sure we are being honest about it all.
I’m not sure that’s exactly legal, but I’m uneasy about it.
I will call tomorrow about being on the waiting list for another apartment complex. This place is getting too scary for me.
Wow.
I need to clean up Kathleen’s clothes. She’s scattered them all over the room.
Jake seems to have been in a fight again. He has a scratch or bite on his face, and he’s acting droopy and shedding.
I’m about ready to head for bed. I only had one morphine tablet this morning, and I’m beginning to feel it.
It was still rather cool today, for me, but of course, lots of other folks think it’s wonderful weather. I guess I would too, if my body temp were higher, but it’s so hard for me to warm up.
Poor Jake. I guess he hasn’t figured out that he can’t just go around picking fights!
87, 23%, SSW @ 4
No, the leaves haven’t started to turn, yet!
Now he definitely has a fever. I’ll call the vet in the morning and get him in for an antibiotic shot.
Someone has not explained things correctly to you. It is not possible to eliminate a cancer gene. Your genes, both good and bad, and even "junk" DNA, make up the road map of what you are.
It's the path you followed to get to be the person you are. That can't change, and it isn't the same, even for identical twins.
What your medical treatment can do is reduce or eliminate material inside you which is affected by chemicals triggered by such things as "cancer genes". That is the reason for the supplemental estrogen suppressor therapy. Estrogen is an agent for powerful change. It's one of the primary human sex hormones which divides us into male and female, and initiates the changes on the outside to make what we are apparent to others.
That's power, baby!
An' what a gift 'e gie us; to be the self as others see us!
So if this powerful agent is suppressed, the tissues most affected by its power will be able to shrug off the effects which might otherwise tilt them over into unbalance, and put your health at risk.
So even after your chemo treatments are over, your supplemental medication will have to be continued.
But cheer up! If the course of treatment is to be continued for five years, that's sorta their cute way of saying you'll probably live at least that much longer!
Most of the east coast Indian names for places have to do with the nearest water features. It is for that reason that a lot of the names have a sweet sussurant sibilance that rolls rather trippingly and wetly off the tongue and the lips.
"Susquehanna" comes from the Len'api (or Delaware Indian) term Sisa'we'hak'hanna, which means "Oyster River."[
Long live the Brits!
