A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Nobody home today. Everyone is out doing the BBQ thing, I guess.

Well... Not everybody. On this end it is round up the grandkids and take them home day.

THEN we can have a holiday.

Sort of..

I can’t even recall when the last time was that I saw my grandkids, not to mention my GGkids.

Tomorrow, I take the truck in for a diagnostic, and I hope it isn’t an arm and a leg thing. :o|

"They just don’t know its you that lives there!"

If the world would beat a path to my door, I wouldn't have so much trouble with the weeds.

You still living in the same castle?

If you have leftovers, you can freeze them. I bought some soap and candles at the festival today. We made Elen go, because she’s mopey, and she and Sally had a good time. There was a band she liked. DP bought her a watercolor picture of guitars.

I’m getting more prints of the Princess and Ogre pictures. You liked the three-view page, right ‘Face? *sigh* at least his hair was clean ...

No leftovers. He’s about 6’4” and is slightly heavy, being a Nebraska farmboy in his youth. I gave him half of what was left of the cheesecake, but he didn’t seem to want anything else. No ribs left, anyway, and I had purchased a full rack.

It was nice to have company, but I probably don’t think I’ll do it again, as I think he is more interested in me than I am in him. I like him because I have known him since I moved in. He’s pleasant to pass the time with.

A Siamese. In recent years, they’ve been bred to have those enormous ears.

Interesting, as I said, but I don’t know if I would want one. They have probably been interbred to the point that they are all crazy.

I managed to sleep from 1730 to 0400, but I really wanted another hour. I am so tired. Maybe when I get back from dropping off the truck I can take a nap. My sciatica is bothering me again, too. Ick.

In a while, I will take a shower, but not just yet. I don’t want to wake the neighbor. Haha.

Sometimes I forget it’s so early there!

We’ll be leaving for Weight Watchers shortly. It won’t be pretty ...

I hope everything goes smoothly with the truck. I’ll be putting some more pictures in the mail to you today, after I get Tom at school but before I take him to Walmart to get more medical supplies. He has oozing globules on his right arm; we need the cling-wrap tape that we used around Jake’s neck after the chupacabra incident.

You forget it’s early here because I’m an early riser! LOL!

I have, oddly enough, managed to not gain any weight, so I will make another stab as losing this week.

Good luck at WW! *hug*

My friend, Charlie, was amazed at several things: that my place was “homey,” that I have a lot of books, and that I can cook.

Of course, he knows the latter because I have shared my spaghetti and tacos with him! I forgot to tell him the rug is the one I got out of the dumpster in Tucson... You’d never know it now, though.
