A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

An apartment?

I’ll let your grandmother know, and she’ll send you something someday. You should email her.

Tom just showed up with 3 cases of Dr. Pepper 10. Blech.

It has occurred to me that every person who meanders down the road in front of my house -- knows where I live. Technically.

But some information is just made for private messaging.

LOL!

OK den.

I went to get red potatoes for the salad, and they were all out (never have I seen a store be barren of certain produce as this Walmart,) so I had to settle for the golds, which I don’t like. And the only extension cords I could find came in a package of three.

I’m sure I’ll find a use for the other two eventually, but it irritated me to not have a choice.

I didn’t pick up any Pink Drink, and now I don’t have enough to do it, thanks to the extension cords. I really feel the need today. And I should get some diet soda to go with it, too. Next time, I guess.

Those stupid mood swings hit, and I’m depressed all of a sudden. Again. Dang. I hate that!

Walmart never runs out of those “custom” customers.

They were out of tomatoes when I wanted a BLT, then they were out of bananas when I needed an ulcer cocktail, and as far as I’m concerned, there is no excuse for that. It’s just poor planning and poor scheduling.

This has been such a quiet day... It’s warming up a bit, but I haven’t been outside to check the thermometer, I don’t have any idea as to the temp. Warm and windy, for now.

Let me check: 94, 24%, SE @ 4 mph. I knew it was humid the minute I stepped outside to go to the community room. I put another note in the mail safe about that car that was towed in and put in place last Sunday.

The potatoes are done, the ribs are thawing, and I already have eggs for the salad, so the day will be “traditional” for a BBQ without actually grilling anything, tomorrow. I even have paper plates! :o] (A standard in my house, since it is too painful to stand long enough to do dishes.)

We’re going to cook some chicken. I just had an email from my mother, a long story about her friend Marge who has gout. Mom is very grateful that she doesn’t have gout.

My son has gout, and I do, too, but I keep mine controlled with my diet. He doesn’t. He takes all the prescriptions the doctors tell him to because they have him afraid of what will happen to him if he tries the herbal/home remedy methods.

I’m glad your mom doesn’t have gout, too! It is WAY painful!

Mom doesn’t have much of anything. She’s in amazing shape for 77. Marge’s gout flareup was in her hand and arm, Mom said.

I’ve only ever had it in my right big toe, but it was excruciating. It took me a while to find the right remedies, but now that I have, I’m seldom bothered with it. My son has it in both big toes. But he still eats foods that cause uric acid crystals...

I can tell you everything (including heredity) that has caused problems in body, including being a Downwinder. (I blame that for my CFIDS, today.)

Off the subject, but I really like that pic of Tom and the Queen of Evil!

You can have some other prints when DP makes them. I gave away all I had at church today.

I know how that goes! LOL!

I need to have a portrait done, but I need to set aside the time for it, factoring in the money. And it will have to include touch-up service. I think I located a place a while back, but I’ve changed computers since then.

And I’m about to do it again. But at least this time, I will be freeing up $60! NO MORE Aaron’s!!!

There’s a great shot of Kathleen holding her dragon, looking absolutely guileless ... until she sics the dragon on you, or sends the ogre to stomp you ...
