Donald Trump vs. Lindsey Graham match ends in a KO
First it was Rick Perry that caught Trumps attention. Then it was Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) 60%. Now hes focusing on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) 60%s Mini-Me, the lovely and talented Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) 50%. In all fairness to Trump, Graham set out to pick the fight. He probably figured he had to stick up for his BFF from Arizona and that hed never really done anything that Trump could criticize.
On Monday evening, Graham told CNN that Trump was becoming a jackass.
By Tuesday, Graham was appearing on CBS This Morning and calling Trump the worlds biggest jackass. Even the jackasses are offended by Trumps remarks, Graham added.
Asked whether he thinks Trump can sustain his place at the top of Republican presidential primary polls, Graham who is also seeking the nomination said no.
I think the beginning of the end has come. The beginning of the end has arrived because hes crossed a line with the American people that will not be tolerated.
A few of observations. First, the criticism of Trump by most of us was not that he criticized McCains war record. That has been attacked by Democrats since 2000. No one can deny Trumps statement that McCain is a hero because he was a POW. That is when he received his decoration for valor and prior to being shot down he was not fast-tracking toward flag rank. The criticism was that in restating an Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) 7% joke about McCain, he broadened it so it applied to all POWs. Insulting Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) 60% is not going to lose any candidate a single vote in a GOP primary anywhere in the nation so, Grahams overwrought will not be tolerated is sort of silly. And lastly, is Donald Trump really the guy you want to call a jackass?
Today, after Grahams CBS appearance, Trump was speaking in South Carolina and lowered the boom on Graham:
Then Trump transitioned to an embarrassing anecdote, which the billionaire real estate developer said was from a few years ago, in which Graham called Trump begging him for a good reference with Trumps pals on the Fox News morning program Fox & Friends.
Trump said that he promised Graham he would put out a good word, and the South Carolina Republican then gave him his phone number to follow up.
Trump then read out what he said was Grahams phone number, telling his supporters to try it.
What follows is 3:08 of awesome with a lot of Trump-esque self-puffery. The part about Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) 50% begging Trump for a job reference is golden.
Some folks are going to complain about him giving out Grahams cell phone number. I dont see the big deal. Graham can go down to the 7-11 and buy another one. But not only is the number being out there an annoyance for Graham, he cant deny Trumps story about begging for a job reference and then asking for a campaign contribution.
I havent decided yet if Trump is actually running for president or hes just out to have a great time, screw with some seriously self-important people, and remind people who he is. To a great extent, I am in agreement with the op-ed Donald Trump wrote in The Onion
The latest polls are out, and just as I predicted, Im leading the Republican presidential race by a wide margin. You might be wondering how that could be. After all, its hardly been a month since I entered the field and Ive already alienated Americas largest immigrant population, seen dozens of my high-profile business deals implode one after the other, and publicly insulted a national heros military service, all while not offering a single viable policy idea. But none of that matters at all, and my candidacy continues to surge forward, because none of younot a single one of youcan look away. Not even for a second.
Admit it: You people want to see just how far this goes, dont you?
My campaigns just barely begun and Ive already got you begging for more. Sure, you can say you oppose me or that you dont even take me seriously. But let me ask you: How many articles have you read about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% lately? How many news segments have you watched on Bobby Jindal? Or Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) 86%? But if those stories have the name Donald Trump in them, well, look who suddenly cant get enough.
Sometimes he goes off the rails but the fact that hes gaining steam in the polls shows that he is speaking to the anger and frustration of a great number of Americans. The other candidates would do well to think about that and instead of emulating the tired, bumbling John McCain and calling them crazies they should realize that something he says resonates. Though Im not a Trump fan and I find him to be equal parts amusing and irritating his presence in the race doesnt offend me. Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, Rand Paul, and John Kasich offend me. People recycling the same failed policies and expecting us to vote for them offend me.
My fear is that he is a reincarnation of Ross Perot and hes going to ride this particular horse until he decides he cant win and he quits throwing things into confusion. This is a different race than 1992 and 1996, where Bill Clinton won with less than 50% of the vote thanks to Perot. The policy differences between George H. W. Bush and Bob Dole and Bill Clinton revolved around how much more money the federal government should get. The national security environment was somnolent. Not for nothing was the period referred to as the holiday from history.
Today the situation is grim at home and disastrous abroad. If Trump is going to run he needs to show some signs that he is serious. We cant afford to elect Hillary Clinton because Trump ran a vanity third party campaign.
I saw Trump on F&F this morning. He did a take down of Miss Lindsey that will leave a mark. By phone conversation with Trump (that is how Trump had his cell number) Graham did ask for a job reference with F&F and also asked for a meeting with Trump, apparently to ask for money, according to Trump. We will see if Graham responds with his version of the call. Trump has him down in the weeds now.
The Trump—Graham match ended in a KO?
Does it count that Lindsey had a fainting spell-—and threw his pearls at Donald?
What do the numbers after the candidates names (60%) refer to? Their chances of being relevant?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha hahahaha
you and most of America has his number
Lesson: don’t try to Alinsky the Donald. He will turn it around on you!
Once the special class understands this things will calm down and DT can expose more of his positive activities
Trump is a bombastic fool. He's running a carnival side show and he's a national embarrassment. What a pathetic loser.
I think this theory that Trump is not serious is just wrong. He seems pretty serious to me.
“If Trump is going to run he needs to show some signs that he is serious.”
I will have to ask again, he is leading the polls, what more could he do if he were “serious”?
I think Trump is a successful high profile grifter, the progressive liberal democrat/rino communist party is packed full of grifters, con men, charlatans and assorted deceivers, I truly enjoy watching Trump run a con on his fellow tricksters and thinking conservatives should all support Trumps endeavors he is working his charm and charisma on the right side and is like fighting fire with fire, conservatives should be aware Trump is what he is and should not be taken in by the con, he will still be a grifter as president. Trump is telling the truth and that is the best circumstance a con man can ask for, we should see him as nothing more than a useful tool that is sharp and strong but when it gets worn set it aside; a dull tool is a danger to work with.
I take a lot of heat every time I say these things and this is why I worry about so many being sucked in... enjoy the show and benefit from it; but don’t become a victim of it.
He forgot his smelling salts?
McCain, Graham, and Perry are losers. Trump is exposing them for the losers they are. I hope he keeps on picking off the GOP butt boys one by one....
How about making serious points rather than making fun of Rick Perry because he wears glasses? Trump mostly appeals to the GED crowd and assorted mouth breathers.
I find Trump entertaining and refreshing, not the mealy-mouthed politician that mortally fears and bows to the left and the establishment Repubs at every turn. It will, at the very least, pull the establishment candidate that’ll end up winning far to the right on some issues for the primaries, at least as long as Trump is leading.
That establishment candidate won’t stick to any conservative campaign promises, of course, but he’ll prove himself the liar he is.
Trump’s money will end up driving the media and the establishment Repubs completely crazy. Since both are evil, I hope he keeps it up and drives them to apoplexy.
BTW... in conjunction with my previous post #9 I would like to further comment:
There is one candidate who understands the tactic of keep your friends close and your enemies closer, he knows well some enemies are mere fodder for the fire, toss them in; others are useful.
Boldly fighting the enemy without and within... CRUZ 2016!
LOL! I thought Miz Linseed threw her purse and then had a case of the vapors!
I hope Linzy empties his voice mail box. Yesterday, I really wanted to give him so good candid feedback. :)
Right now he, and to a lesser extent Cruz, are the only ones taking the fight to Democrats in ways that might produce a victory in 2016.
I don’t consider myself a Trump supporter, but I do recognize that he’s performing an invaluable service here. If the rest of the GOP field were smart they’d voice token disapproval for some of the stuff he says that goes over the line, otherwise stay out of his way and be prepared to pick up his mantle and employ many of his tactics once his candidacy burns out from overexposure.
“How about making serious points rather than making fun of Rick Perry because he wears glasses?”
Rick Perry has called him a demagogue, a cancer, etc. Are those insults permissible for Perry? And Trump deflects it with humor and that makes him not serious?
“Trump mostly appeals to the GED crowd and assorted mouth breathers.”
As stated by someone whose handle is “Cry if I Wanna”.
We all can’t be geniuses such as you evidently think you are.
I expect he was really bombed by well wishers! :)
