Some time after I bought my first gun, I got a robocall from the National Rifle Association, asking me to join. After the customary Please stay on the line. . . from a pleasant but earnest voice, I recoiled from the barkings of an angry-sounding man: Did I know that Barack Hussein Obama and European leaders are meeting on American soil right now, at this very moment, to plot the confiscation of my guns?
The caller continued with his insinuations of an imminent United Nations plot against America, but before I could be handed off to a live operator, I hung up the phone.
I was amused, and then insulted, that someone would think I was dumb enough to fall for such a pitch. But the sad truth is that there are enough people willing to open their checkbooks to make such a noxious fundraising appeal worthwhile.
The NRA claims to have 5 million dues-paying members (though theres some reason to believe this figure is inflated). That sounds formidable, until one considers that there are approximately 50 million adults who own firearms. Still, the organization has successfully positioned itself as the singular representation of gun owners. For decades theyve worked to defend and expand access to firearms in spite of polls showing that most Americans, including gun owners, favor laws that would limit access in various reasonable ways (even three-quarters of NRA households favor background checks prior to private gun sales). But when a U.S. congresswoman was shot in the face, the NRA made certain that no law was passed that would have made her safer. Theres no doubt that the NRA does have some grass-roots support, but its smaller than we think. The NRA does not represent all gun owners, and it certainly doesnt represent me.

Why do leftists have to hate something all the time?
Maybe do to constipation? Well, they're all full of sh@t.

No doubt one of Bloomberg’s disciples in the field of journalism.
Perhaps he just came of legal age during this reign of terror.
I despise the NRA for keeping Harry Reid in office, along with a truckload of other communist Democrats.
The NRA is a fund-raising scam, pushing for monopoly control as spokes-group for gun owners, and monopoly control of mandated "training" programs. They do not represent our interests; no more than the EPA is working to protect us, or that Hillary is going to save us, or that odinga is an American.
Don’t worry, David Fellatrix, the NRA hates you right back.
I know they need the money, but that is dishonest...and you know a lot of regular folks fall for it.
You know, I wonder how history would have played out if AlGore actually won a term. Would that have stopped OTrauma from destroying America?
Nothing about this rings true.
There are also several NRA organizational levels, and it gets very confusing which one you are talking to: national, state, regional? I stopped trying to figure it out, and just give to conservative orgs I trust and who don’t obfuscate.
He never bought a gun. I call these "template" pieces. Whe you identify the forms you start seeing them everywhere.
Poor sheep. He has drank the Kool aid and is more dangerous than 1,000’s of rabid anti-gunners. Most of them are at least partially honest.
Further thinking about it, I’ll bet this guy has never set foot in the woods with a hunting rifle. Who in the hell takes up hunting when they are 37? Just decided to buy a rifle and take up hunting, huh? Liar.
I wouldn’t want to join any organization that would have me as a member.
Seminar poster. I love the NRA, first became a member over 50 years ago, am now an NRA Endowment member, and wear an NRA hat just to freak out my liberal neighbors here in the Northeast. Go pound sand, loser.
The author does not understand that there are two parts to the NRA..
One is the NRA that we all know and appreciate as gun owners, hunters and enthusiasts, and the other is the fundraising arm of the association that is the same as any other fund raiser op and is often a royal pain in the posterior.
“I was amused, and then insulted, that someone would think I was dumb enough to fall for such a pitch”
1st of all, you are dumber than a box of hammers and they are, in fact, plotting to do just that.
2nd. Laws should be created to ensure another Gabby Giffords doesn’t happen? Murder is already against the law and looking for laws that result in “Absolute” solutions would reduce the rights of every other law abiding and moral person.
3rd. I doubt you were ever an NRA member and if you were it was a research thing for you and I don’t trust your fairytale story....
the author of this hit piece is most likely also the owner of a pair of pants, but that doesn’t make him a man
I left the NRA after they all the calls and mailings trying to get me to send them more money. I’m sure they spent a ton more than my initial contribution.
This guy is pure BS. He damn sure did not get a call. He is a liar.
I don’t think that a rubber band gun is a real gun.
