Some time after I bought my first gun, I got a robocall from the National Rifle Association, asking me to join. After the customary Please stay on the line. . . from a pleasant but earnest voice, I recoiled from the barkings of an angry-sounding man: Did I know that Barack Hussein Obama and European leaders are meeting on American soil right now, at this very moment, to plot the confiscation of my guns?
The caller continued with his insinuations of an imminent United Nations plot against America, but before I could be handed off to a live operator, I hung up the phone.
I was amused, and then insulted, that someone would think I was dumb enough to fall for such a pitch. But the sad truth is that there are enough people willing to open their checkbooks to make such a noxious fundraising appeal worthwhile.
The NRA claims to have 5 million dues-paying members (though theres some reason to believe this figure is inflated). That sounds formidable, until one considers that there are approximately 50 million adults who own firearms. Still, the organization has successfully positioned itself as the singular representation of gun owners. For decades theyve worked to defend and expand access to firearms in spite of polls showing that most Americans, including gun owners, favor laws that would limit access in various reasonable ways (even three-quarters of NRA households favor background checks prior to private gun sales). But when a U.S. congresswoman was shot in the face, the NRA made certain that no law was passed that would have made her safer. Theres no doubt that the NRA does have some grass-roots support, but its smaller than we think. The NRA does not represent all gun owners, and it certainly doesnt represent me.

Bought his first gun when BO was President .... there’s a life long, informed gun owner for you.
A concern troll on guns.
No bias here or nothing. Idiot.
Fuss, fuss, fuss.
I soured on the NRA when they talked about endorsing Whorey Reid.
I smell bull$hit
A “community organizer.” That says it all...
Why did he feel the need to own a gun? What’s his motivation?
............and here I actually thought they were after my guns.
Whatta relief!
Say he only has long guns ... got his first one at 37 so he could hunt.
What he doesn’t realize is that without the NRA and other pro-2A groups the 2A would be meaningless and practically no one would be allowed to own a gun.
does NRA even make robocalls?
So, don’t join, jerk. The RNA is better off without you.
The deluded fool thinks that gun laws prevent murders.
RNA = NRA
What an idiot. If it were up to me, he’d have his guns taken away and then be forced to live in Cuba, North Korea, or even Chicago for five years.
No less than Bill Clintoon credited the NRA with the defeat of Algore. NRA made the difference in a very close election, thank the Good Lord.
The author of this ignorant piece is clearly delusional and entirely off their rocker, BUT, I will say this: The NRA happily caved the Unconstitutional background checks back in the 80’s, which then led to the nonsense about the so-called “gun show loophole” and so much more. On top of that, I tire of the constant mailings asking for more money so they can send more mail. The NRA has, unfortunately, become the GOPe of the activist world. I won’t be party to an organization that is ok with handing my rights over to gubmint.
“does NRA even make robocalls?”
Yep. big time. even, maybe especially, if you are already a member. took me multiple calls to headquarters to get them stopped.
same with junk emails. none of the unsubscribe links in the nra emails would work, so had to call multiple times to get them stopped.
i think what actually worked was threatening to discontinue my membership and get my money back if they didn’t stop harassing me.
i’d consider switching membership to some other national 2nd amendment org if my gun club didn’t require nra membership to maintain club membership.
