Please forgive the vanity...
Over the years, I have really enjoyed participating in Free Republic discussions on a great variety of topics. Even when there was strong disagreement, Free Republic brought me a sense of connection with others that always seemed to have a purpose.
Unfortunately, I now see clearly that it is over for the US. The constitution has no meaning and we are essentially under mob rule. There is no party to turn to and all the politicians are in collusion to game the system. I think we have reached a stage where this is all going to unravel economically and socially much faster than most people think.
Everything being pushed that most of us are against will come to fruition, with no chance of stopping it. I also realize that there will be no pushback, or moment of "hell no", despite all the brave talk of those behind keyboards. All the big talkers will eventually give up their first and second amendment rights with hardly a whimper.
I am basically going to disconnect, discontinue following politics, and quit voting. I refuse to be Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football any longer. I will now concentrate strictly on my own preparations with my family for when this all goes belly up. Honestly, at this point I would rather it all just go ahead and collapse sooner rather than later.
For my own sanity, I just need to tune it all out from now on.
Maybe I’m in the same boat. I’ve pretty much come to the end of my rope. I see the cowardice of our leaders, and the apathy of our citizens, and the vomitous degeneracy of our culture. This isn’t the America I loved and would have gladly given my life for. Not by a longshot. It’s become almost the mirror-opposite of everything it once was. The topic of politics and presidential races seem nothing more than darkly comic to me.
Everything I ever valued or cherished about this country is now spit upon. I’ve gradually gotten to the point where I don’t feel any connection or any sense of loyalty to the country as it currently exists. It’s like an ugly, foreign land to me. And I think the final breaking point for me will be next week when the SC imposes homo-marriage onto the country. It’s the symbol for me that America has finally embraced evil.
It won’t work. It’s too late anyway.
There is always the last box.
Thank you for being here. Means a lot that you are attached enough to talk, instead of disappearing.
You too? I've always said that I want to go out in a big fiery explosion with the throat of a jihadi in each hand.
The dirty hidden secret is that elected politicians don't set the agenda on substantive issues. They are spoon fed. They lie to save face and preservre the illusion. Lying is lucrative.
*"ought to be" for purists
Which is why we need term limits to prevent anyone from becoming entrenched in someone’s back pocket and to repeal the 17th to allow state legislatures to pick the person to represent the state and be replaced every few years.
I understand completely your sentiments, but I encourage you to realize these are the tough times everyone has always talked about where you need to gut it up and stay the course. Just like a soldier in battle you can never ever...ever quit.
Take a break then fight on.
I still marvel at the historical precedent. But it's dead Jim. I still marvel at independence, personal independence (not in the "a man can be an island" sense), which SOME people still dare to hold - see Rosa Parks, for example.
I have contempt for the political and legal institutions of this country, but I sure do love its people. The institutions are dishonest, arrogant, inhuman, spiteful. I certainly don't mean always and all of them - when the stakes are small or routine, the system works very very well. More than half of the police and judges are honest.

I have a law degree, with honors. I studied law. On social issues, the courts are long-gone. I can point out many cases where precedents are ignored or misconstrued in order to reach an outcome.
I'm not endorsing any particular "breaking point," beyond noting that the law is not the end-all be-all. Civil disobedience (emphasis on civil) is a celebrated practice - at bottom, it is ... independence! Practice it judiciously, and with love and care for your fellow man.
America's 'enemies within' are hoping that your sentiments will grow and spread to the point that most, if not all, of us will give up hope and just stop trying to thwart them. They love to see their policies and actions result in a defeatist attitude among us, their opposition. They want us to give up and give in.
To that I say...not just no, but HELL NO. They can hold their breath for that to occur....and I so hope that they do.
Now, on a lighter note.....
I was thinking the same thing earlier.
Destroying the Confederate Flag is like burning your history books, and the same for Old Glory! Neither
flag is a symbol of war or oppression. They’re our banners, and they will always be our history.
I have it linked on my blogpage. The insights are chilling.
Yeah, I was hoping we could count on our religious institutions to hold the line on the rampant immorality. But it's obvious this pope won't be any help. The Baptists have taken a pretty strong stand against the fags, but who knows how long it will last?
It's going to come down to We the People, FRiend. And all too soon we're all going to have to decide which side of the barricade we're going to be on.
I think I've already made up my mind.
My preference. ALthough I'll settle for a raghead too.
Probably the best advice on the thread so far, IMHO. I had a neighbor who bought flowers when she was feeling down. Thing is, though, you can't shoot the bastards with petunias. I came home from work just now to find a lovely box holding 300 rounds of green-tip, you know, the stuff the last liberal hyperventilation campaign was over? That shrieking contest reminds me a little of this current insanely hysterical push against the dire peril of Confederate banners, which is sure to push the prices up but make people like me pissed off enough to buy one where otherwise I'd never consider it. Green-tip, though, that's actually useful. And dang it, it's eco-friendly and Mother Gaiea wants me to have it. She told me so. Fly, my lovelies...
Better to formalize a planned positive response if you can’t handle one person’s comment.
It’s a good thing to be positive too with those who ire you & those who you want to rage at .
“But then..that isn’t my job or my craft”... RIGHT?
Better to be part of the solution than be a problematic
poster at Free Republic.
You’re welcome, Tough Guy!
