On his last full day in space aboard the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronaut Terry Virts at last captured a truly iconic shot of one of the Seven Wonders of the World the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
Virts snapped the exquisitely sharp view of the Egyptian pyramids at Giza on June 10 looking out from the stations windows, just hours before entering the Soyuz return spaceship and closing the hatches behind him for his planned plummet back to Earth.
He proudly posted the spectacular photo on his twitter social media account from space while serving as station commander of Expedition 43.
The three pyramids of Giza dominate the fantastically beautiful photo. They are located about 9 km (5 mi) from the town of Giza on the Nile, and some 25 km (15 mi) southwest of the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.
The Great Sphinx is also located nearby the massive complex of the Great Pyramids and visible in the stunning photo. See map below.

Look how close the city is
Oooo...Good One!
Fyi ping...
there’s a Cleopatra slot machine in AC where if you get three pyramids you get 15 free games :)
The astronaut got the real deal. :) His lucky day.
There are people who hand hold telescopes with cameras attached taking pictures of satellites like the ISS. They’ll snap hundreds at a time hoping that one gets the target and comes out clear.
That is way cool.
I was surprised too when I visited Cairo and Giza .. The Sphinx and Pyramids are right next to all kinds of community, etc..
It’s a cool pic but calling it “exquisitely sharp “ is quite a stretch.
I was thinking how as a kids, lots of us dreamed of visiting the pyramids. Too bad it’s no longer a place I would feel safe.
I have to make this short. I’m on my way to Atlantic City. Lol. Jk. I live on Staten Island and they made a casino 20 minutes away but thank God I have no interest in going. Just atlantic city a couple of times a year. for some reason when something is made so abundant it becomes less exciting.
There are Egyptian ghettos just a few blocks away.

How long until ISIS or Obama destroys them?
Lol. I hear ya. Loses it’s novelty unless addicted, but then not fun either ‘cause addicted.
Get pics before muzzies destroy them.
The smog in Cairo is incredible. This is remarkably clear.
I hear ya 100 percent. i am a degenerate in AC. my other half holds my money when we go :)
There is no good reason but the grace of God that i have not lost everything at that one 20 minutes away.
now if i could lose a ton of weight, i’d be set :(
