American businesses have a lot of "we're hiring" signs up.
There were 5.4 million job openings in the U.S. in April -- the highest number of openings in 15 years.
It is a record high since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking monthly job openings in December 2000.
The surge in job openings this spring was even better than expected, according Peter Boockvar, chief market analyst at the Lindsey Group.
It's another sign that the economy appears to be rebounding and the winter slowdown was just a blip.
Who's hiring? Over the past year, health care, business services and social assistance have seen the most openings. That trend continued in April with an uptick in health care positions.
Business across America are looking for employees, although the biggest increases in vacancies recently have been in the west.
The main industry that continues to struggle is mining and logging, which was hit hard by the dramatic decline in oil and other commodity prices in late 2014 and early 2015.

None of us can have the job.
The economy and the people of this country are total bunk. Everything is window dressing. Nobody does productive work anymore. We all pretend. Vast swaths of human beings are just a pure drain on society. Their numbers are increasing, they control the political institutions, and workers just get the shaft at every juncture.
Work is for the stupid.
Live off the fat of anyone who is stupid enough to work.
It’s the American Way.
Changing Tagline.
Oh NO! Don't do that. With my degree in Homoerotic Customs and Rituals of Bantu Peoples we can start a road show troupe and make a FORTUNE!!
Most of the country have become unhappy caged zoo animals.
After this past winter, a whole lot of golf courses need entry-level help in maintenance and groundskeeping...
"Most of the country have become unhappy caged zoo animals" who blame Republicans and vote for the Democrats who designed and operate their cages.
CNN lies.
Sure...McDonald’s cooks, Jack in the Box drive thru operators, Domino pizza delivery drivers, drive thru car washes, Obamacare exchange handlers, etc...all 20ish hours a week with no benefits. Meanwhile the good ‘old’ jobs you used to be able to get with benefits and pension are being put to pasture because the companies can’t pay benefits like that any longer with all the increased costs, regulations, and taxes that are making it almost unprofitable to stay in business...
You got a degree in that?
Hell, I licked that years ago....
Breaking Alert:....
(Interrupting this thread so you know)
Massive Explosions in Baghdad reported on Fox....just over the wires.
Isis did say they were going to take over Baghdad....we shall see.
Yep. It won’t end well when the zoo stops the food deliveries.
My neighborhood’s McDonalds actually has such a “Now Hiring” sign displayed right now.
How many of these “job openings” are redundant?
I’ve heard ads for use this software, post the job to every job board and social network.
It is then very easy for the same position to show up multiple times in some count of openings.
Your post makes me feel microaggressed.
What a crock of s****. You can make statistics say anything you want - and this admin does just that. Only jobs I see are entry level, no benefits, under 30 hours/week. Older (over 40) workers look for weeks with little/no luck.
yeah maybe,,, but our schools cant provide enough qualified people to fill most of them... imho
Thank you. My work here is done.
Thinks of all the jobs we have now, that we did not have before Obama.
1. Uber driver. Makes around $9.50 per hour after expenses.
2. Dollar Store employee. Minimum wage, in one of the few retail brick and mortar growth sectors.
3. Riot remediation. Reconstruct or demolish riot zones where persons expressed themselves.
