Paleontologists are calling a recent find in the Russian region of Yakutia a sensation. Last September, Aleksandr Banderov and his hunting party were traveling near the Semyulyakh River when they uncovered the preserved carcass of an adolescent wholly rhinoceros, a species that roamed the frozen landscapes of Europe and northern Asia during the last Ice Age. The hunters initially thought it was a reindeer frozen in the ice, but quickly realized it was something much older.
We were sailing past a ravine and noticed hair hanging on the top of it, Alexander told The Siberian Times. At first we thought it was a reindeers carcass, but after it thawed and fell down we saw a horn on its upper jaw and realized it must be a rhino. The part of the carcass that stuck out of the ice was eaten by wild animals, but the rest of it was inside the permafrost and preserved well.

Pics at link, for what they are worth. A historical discovery indeed.
Tastes like steak..
Thanks, fascinating.
Are they sure it was “wholly” rhinoceros? It didn’t have some chicken mixed in?
—hope it can be cloned —Central Park-NYC- would be a great habitat-—
Maybe we can mate it with a wooly mammoth. And get a wooly wooly rhinomamoth.
Boy, now did the citizens of Bedrock cause the wooly rhinoceros and the wooly mammoth to go extinct? I’m blaming the Flintstones!”
Bob Dole in a Kansas snowstorm?
Yes, and I was about to wonder what if it was John McCain or Lindsay Graham or Thad Cochran they found over there instead.
I should mention that many years ago I read about how some settlers out hunting came upon a frozen Woolly Mammoth entombed in the ice. A group of men gathered at the site once word got out and they chopped it out of the ice.
Reports were that the meat was a bit gamey, but edible. No word on exactly what the taste reminded them of.
Welcome, although the pictures are difficult to see anything in. A historical discovery indeed.
LOL!
Don’t know if this is along the lines of your usual interests, but you might have a look and see if it does, mate.
Yeah, I’ve never heard what it tasted like either.
I do wonder if they could clone the darn things.
I was thinking more along the climate of Alaska, actually.
The other white meat?...
Tasted so good we ate them all, except for the ones that got away.
A lot of hair left on that critter, think I’ll dig out my Sam the Sham CD for a little Wooly Bully.
"Millions of years ago, these moderate Republican creatures roamed the Earth and pissed off the conservative cavemen as their genetic offspring continues to do today."
I was going to post, TTIUWP, but then...
