Paleontologists are calling a recent find in the Russian region of Yakutia a “sensation.” Last September, Aleksandr Banderov and his hunting party were traveling near the Semyulyakh River when they uncovered the preserved carcass of an adolescent wholly rhinoceros, a species that roamed the frozen landscapes of Europe and northern Asia during the last Ice Age. The hunters initially thought it was a reindeer frozen in the ice, but quickly realized it was something much older.
“We were sailing past a ravine and noticed hair hanging on the top of it,’ Alexander told The Siberian Times. “At first we thought it was a reindeer’s carcass, but after it thawed and fell down we saw a horn on its upper jaw and realized it must be a rhino. The part of the carcass that stuck out of the ice was eaten by wild animals, but the rest of it was inside the permafrost and preserved well.”

Well, I did state at the outset “...for what it’s worth.” The pics don’t really show much, but that’s to be expected for something frozen in the ice for so long.
This would be a great animal to clone—What zoo wouldn’t want one? What circus wouldn’t want a performing Wooly Rino! This would be GOLD. Would you pay to see a livinng example of this? I would.

If I were a sheep-herder/wool-grower I’d be very concerned. We now have ongoing efforts to clone wooly mammoths and wooly rhinos. Imagine how much wool you could get from a single shearing of a mammoth or a rhino (once you decide who’s going to hold their legs.)

I cooked up part of some 5 year old ground beef. The dog liked it, I didn’t. Smelled old cooking it.
Marinated the remainder in cheese whey for 24 hrs, cooked it & tasted good. Took all the red out & made the meat white.
Freezer burned?

You are welcome, and yes the area seems to be quite remote indeed. I think those hunters were very fortunate to make this discovery before the local wildlife destroyed more of the find than had already occurred.
