Tired of paying through the nose for "Gimmick" razors with 2&3 blades that do nothing but clog. Looking into a Ole'fashioned Double edge and have seen a few on E Bay and the bald guy from Pawn Stars latest addition at Walgreens for 20 bucks. Never did electric. Wish I kept my 1st Gillette.
Any thoughts?
I used the multiple razor type and shave in the shower where the whiskers are very soft and easy to cut. I get a shave close enough to not even be able to feel stubble after shaving. BTW, too many gimmicks on any of those “dont order yet!!” ads for me to ever pay for that stuff.
BTW, I would never buy the razors advertised with the guy getting punched in the nuts. No guy with any self respect would let himself be used like that.
Fully understand. But to me getting up 5 minutes earlier is well worth it. I am no longer smearing cheap, chemical laden spray foam on my face. My wife swears my face is smoother and looks better. I guess part of the reason is I am paying more attention to my grooming. (There is certainly an intangible benefit to the wife being happy with my face as well.)
Its not a hobby.
It certainly isn't. It can become one. There are guys who collect razors and brushes and such. I don't do that. I have found something that works well and takes the drudgery out of a daily chore. Why use cheap products on something that is as important as looking good for the day?
I recently tried Shave Secret because I didn’t like the shave creams or gels. It’s easy to apply and clean up, very smooth shave, smells good, and at months into a $3.75 bottle, I am just barely below the bottle’s shoulder.
I shave in the shower but I am going to have to stop. I keep missing places plus the whiskers tend to flatten. I’ll just buy a brush and shaving soap and give that a try. I used to do it but I broke the mug.
Manly thread bump
I’m still using my late ‘60s Schick adjustable injector razor.
I also use a fountain pen, so go figure... ;)
I switched to DE a couple years ago after decades of trying every new and overpriced new razor that Gillette and Schick put on the market and NEVER getting a close shave.
I spent just over a hundred bucks on a razor and brush and good shaving cream costs a little more than the junk in a can, but I buy 100 Feather blades at a time for $40 and that lasts me a year.
There was a bit of a learning curve at first, but I no longer dread shaving and my face doesn't feel like sandpaper by lunchtime.
Go old school: either grow a beard or get a mug, a brush, and a straight razor (or both if you don’t want a full beard).
That stuff is the best pre shave oil, EVER!
Go to Bed Bath & Beyond and get a small ceramic bowl that's used for making creme brulee, they cost about three bucks and work just fine.
That doesn’t sound very hipster. I’m hittin the thrifts yo
ping
I don't care about being hipster.
I've actually got my great-grandfather's shaving mug that's about a hundred years old, but I won't risk breaking it. I keep my toothbrush in it.
Thanks. I Just placed an order with Dorco for the March Frugal Dude pack.
I am a Frugal Dude so I figured why not? Either that or another Costco 52 pack twin blade disposable for 50 + bucks. Frugal Dude pack says good for a year.
Time will tell.
That being said, the next time Mrs. Gamecock makes me go I accompany my lovely wife to Bed Bath & Beyond I'll check out the ceramic bowl.
I’m still hunting for a shaving skuttle that isn’t designed for a puck, and doesn’t look like it was made by an indigenous tribe.
Microtouch one razor.com
Razor, case and 24 blades for $19.99 + S & H.
