Full title: What would Jesus drink? Experts guess what wine was like in ancient times and what modern ones are similar

Christ was a vintner.

And if you heed the Scriptures, quite a good one, according to the maitre d' at the wedding in Cana. "... the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, 'Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.'" (John 2:9-10).

In ancient times, wine was precious and revered, mentioned more than 140 times in the Bible. As Easter and Passover draw near, thoughts turn to the vine and curious minds reel.

Do you know why Baptists don’t have sex, standing up? (It looks too much like dancing....)

Is your statement made logically? Why would you pose it to me then, if your premise is accurate?

Then it’s silly to attribute to the KGB human behaviors which have been persistent & prevalent for millennia.

The guy or gal is nutty as a fruitcake.

He isn’t ever going to be able to explain what he has been saying.

I reviewed that subthread, and have to agree with ansel12 that the post in question is, indeed, rather strange.

Why are so many here suddenly defending the KGB?

So much so that you couldn’t wait to engage me in discussion.

We’re not defending the KGB, only placing blame where it’s due.
KGB may have at times taken advantage of Russian culture’s fondness for alcohol abuse, but that hardly warrants blaming nigh unto _all_ alcohol abuse on the KGB.
You’re the one making bizarre claims about the KGB. Yeah, they’re evil, but they’re not Satan himself.

One thing you can be certain of.

The KGB of old—and whatever they’ve morphed into since—wanted very much then, and still want now, that as many Americans as possible to consume as much alcohol as they can.

Fall for it if you choose.

Well...yeah. I’m reading a thread I’m participating in alongside you, and see recurring comments about you making strange posts (and you proceeding to make strange defense thereof), so no surprise I go back thru the thread to understand what you two are arguing about. It’s a combination of participation in the subject at hand, coupled with a conversational form of morbid curiosity.

If you’re standing in a small group discussing something, and two people suddenly and obviously get into a heated tangent, there’s no surprise/outrage at others in the group taking an interest therein and adding to that heated discussion - either because it’s interesting, or to try cooling both off (perhaps by noting that the insults were, in fact, warranted).

They are puppets of Satan and they do his bidding. Are you not aware of the occultism of Karl Marx and his satanic writings?

Like I was saying to your comrade—are you trying to engage me in logical discussion?

Wanting your enemies to die of stupidity and/or intoxication is one thing.
Actively being involved in persuading them to, on the scale of hundreds of millions, is very different.
While not exactly "dry", Americans are noted for not drinking enormous amounts - most consume less than 1 serving a day, which is barely enough to notice any effects at all.

If the KGB is somehow on an active plan to persuade Americans to drink themselves into oblivion, those agents are doing a pretty lousy job of it.

Heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine?

Marijuana?

(for starters)

Let’s say I sometimes enjoy attempting to engage the illogical in logical discussion. Doing so opens me to the possibility of discovering truths I’d prior dismissed as absurdisms, hones my rhetorical skills, and amuses me on an evening I’d rather watch a movie on but am too tired to actually commit two hours to.

You continue to put forth significant effort in an attempt at offering logical explanation to me, and your tone is one of seeking my approval.

Again, if the KGB is trying to bring down the USA via promotion of alcohol abuse, they're doing a lousy job of it.

What’s fascinating is how you consistently avoid defense of the actual idea, instead focusing on berating those expressing confusion & concern about one holding & offering such an idea. Clearly more than one person on this thread are attempting to engage in logical discussion about your “KGB promoting American alcohol abuse” notion, while you’re focused only on delivering disapproval.

What segments of our society do you think they target?

Do you know how to calculate the number of families that have been devastated by the effects on judgment and disinhibition from a single episode of too much alcohol?

Do you know the rate of alcoholism in military vets?

Well, since you’re obviously disinterested in rationally discussing what you suggest is a pervasive international conspiracy involving hundreds of millions of victims, and it’s 11PM, and I’m just about done copying a Jack Reacher audiobook onto my phone, I’ll attempt to politely bid you adieu and await your closing snark.
