Full title: What would Jesus drink? Experts guess what wine was like in ancient times and what modern ones are similar
Christ was a vintner.
And if you heed the Scriptures, quite a good one, according to the maitre d' at the wedding in Cana. "... the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, 'Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.'" (John 2:9-10).
In ancient times, wine was precious and revered, mentioned more than 140 times in the Bible. As Easter and Passover draw near, thoughts turn to the vine and curious minds reel.

Q. Why did I know that this thread would turn goofy?
A. Because the topic is Jesus and wine.

Do you think they accept US military members or will that cause a problem during my job interview?

The best that can be said is that the wine of that era was generally of lower alcoholic content than is common today. The Baptist interpretation that turns wine into grape juice is an extreme example of a social teaching driving how the Bible is read.
Modern education and communication now make that kind of manipulation hard to carry off. A great many clerics and religious educators these days are therefore apostate or are to one degree or another divergent from the official teaching of their denominations.

I agree...I would want to start at the beginning.

"Id say the KGB and Communist Russia represent all treachery and violence ever committed, by all countries over the centuries." I saw a license plate today which sums up my response here.

Apparently the Baptist belief grew out of the American temperance movement in the 19th Century. Ironically, bourbon was invented by a Baptist preacher, Elijah Craig. And his brand is still out there.

A small vineyard with very very high demand drives those prices. Never had a sip although I have bought a few other high end bottles over the years. There is a restaurant in town here with the best wine list in the city. They have about a dozen bottles from various vintages. They ranged from 7 to 10 thousand which would be about double what they paid if they used the standard markup restaurants use for wine.

But drink the wine, and double-posting inevitably follows.

What lies do you speak of?
Jesus went to celebrations where humans have traditionally had wine (and not as a mere politeness or sterile water source).
Jesus made wine (at a particular event, and timing therein, where alcohol would be most appreciated by most participants).
Jesus admonished followers of imbibing _too_much_ wine, never against taking any at all.
Jesus spoke often of “wine” as a positive analogy to good behavior.
Jesus used wine as an analogy/medium of his own blood (as greatest gift).
A practical matter of the day: squeeze grapes, collect juice, it begins fermenting immediately (if not before) and constitutes “wine” within days.
And no, it wasn’t a KGB plot.

If that’s your impression after reading at least four of my posts and writing back four times, I’d advise you to stop spending time having a conversation with me.
Your choices are:
1) continue your discussion with me
2) take my advice
