OKAY! All you Windows users and admins and fanboys, Microsoft followers and folks, all you 90% of the computer users in the world...
After over 6 years of complaining that FreeRepublic doesn't have a Windows Ping List, I have finally decided that it's up to me to make one!So if you want on the All-New Windows Ping List (or off, but ya gotta get on before you can get off), FReepMail me (dayglored) and I'll put ya on the list.
First!
Thanks again.
Surviving that was a real challenge, but I’m here, sorta.
Glad to see ya, pal, I was getting worried....

As explained in Windows 8 pro review (upgrade XP to Windows 8 with Classic Shell) ">this FR thread. : In from what i see using the Window 10 preview, as explained in this thread , shows little change from Windows 7. Though that was an early build of WTP.
The latest build (11041) can be had here .
If already running WTP and want to upgrade, see here . If you are having trrouble doing so, read thru here .
The minimum system requirements (see more at link) for Win10 are
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Free hard disk space: 16 GB
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
A Microsoft account and Internet access
Best to install it on a second hard drive (HD), with your defat OS drive unplugged until after you install WTP. Then use the F11 or whatever key your BIOS has to choose what HD to boot from. Win/10 is expected to be provided free to W/8.1 and W/7 users this summer, for a year.
The main advantage being the service life will go on for a longer time (even if the country does not, or a EULA forbids criticism of sodomy, etc.)
Below is the difference btwn the defaul WTP start menu and classic shell. Which would you prefer? (You can nuke items in either one.)

Another of many safe and proven freeware enhancements is the Windows Club Right-click extender

Also useful is Ultimate Windows Tweaker 3 for Windows 8
Thanks God for such to be used for good! And of which PaleMoon/Waterfox/Firefox is the tops for the Internet, if you know the extensions. Ask me.
Now here are a few useful paths (replace username with yours)
C:\Users\username \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
C:\Users\username \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Users\username \AppData\Roaming
C:\Users\username \SendTo
C:\Users\username \Desktop\
To run more than one Firefox install, change the shortcut link to,
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p
Add me to the major ping list
You're on -- and thanks for that very informative post above, and also for the pings to the other folks... spread the word - thanks!
The difference is that this too often becomes the norm with Linux problems (just read the forums). Which is not wrong, but it can require times one may not feel should be needed. But with W/8 and 10 my keyboard shortcut command to sleep is C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
And which i hot keyed to Ctrl+Alt+z, which in turn was remapped to ScrollLock via AutoHotKey. But if the hibernation is on then it goes into hibernation, so I had to do admin command prompt (Win key and x)
powercfg -h off
then the PC goes to sleep when i hit the hot key,
But then you cannot enable hibernation via any GUI, and must to a command powercfg -h on.
Also,
When using the Details view in Windows File Explorer, when you select an item, the whole row is selected. In Windows Vista you could tweak the FullRowSelect registry value to achieve this result. But this is known to not work in Windows 7 or Windows 8. You have to make additional changes to the registry [explained here ]. To disable or restore Full Row Select in Windows 8, download and use UWT3 http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-3-windows-8. Check the Disable Full Row Select Items option and press Apply. (http://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-full-row-select-windows-explorer)
Please add me @dayglored
Ping me...
But if you want to do things quicker, use AutoHotKey and add such as the following (change the keys to what you want) to a script you then save and run
#1::Run C:\Windows\System32\Sysdm.cpl
#2::Run powercfg.cpl
#3::Run ncpa.cpl
#5::Run devmgmt.msc
#6::Run diskmgmt.msc
#7::Run eventvwr.msc
#8::Run services.msc
#9::Run msconfig
#!W::Run C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wuapp.exe [Windows update]
#U::Run C:\Windows\System32\appwiz.cpl [uninstall]
#+r::Run regedit.exe
#P::Run control printers
Not that the codes are,
#+ (Windows key and Shift)
#^ (W and Ctrl)
#! (W and Alt)
I myself remapped the caps lock key to copy, and the esc key to paste (since i do lots of both with my arthritic fingers) and NumLock to Esc, and the middle mouse key to cut, but adding the following to the script:
NumLock::Esc
CapsLock::^c
Esc::^v
mbutton::^x
And the Windows Club Right-click extender can add many right click commands
Then there is the BBCodeXtra Firefox ext. which enables me to add scripts to code pages like this.
Thank God for such helps.
Hope it helps. I do run Xbuntu, the best low resource Linux distro i tried, on a old laptop dualbooting with XP.
“Tim?”
?
I not only can’t say logged in, I can’t stop rebooting:

And this helps me how?
You might try forcing the computer to boot into "Safe Mode" in which most drivers are not loaded, and you may be able to regain control that way. Your OS Version indicates it's Windows 7, which is generally quite stable, so I would try Safe Mode first (unless you already have).
Some other FReepers may have additional suggestions for debugging this.
Count me in...
NOT AN APPLE/MAC/IPHONE/IPAD PING!
Okay, this moose will bite. One more for the list ,Please. :)
Please add me.
