A skull that was thought to have belonged to a Civil War soldier killed at Gettysburg is actually more than 700 years old and from the Southwest, say experts.
The National Park Service has revealed that forensic anthropologists determined that the skull is from the late 1200s and belonged to a Native American man in his early-to-mid 20s.
That's nearly 300 years before Christopher Columbus sailed to the New World and 400 years before the first settlement of English in the United States.
The company that nearly auctioned the skull last year said notarized documents had showed it was discovered on a Gettysburg farm, not the Southwestern US, according to NBC 4.
The firm - Estate Auction Company - was set to auction off the skull in Hagerstown, Maryland in June but canceled after members of the public complained.
They then donated the skull to the Parks Service.

Go figure, the remains of an American human are now considered a commodity and subject to auction...........
Why was the skull of a Civil War soldier auctioned when it should have received a proper burial?
“The late 1200s were a good time....”
.
They were such a good time because there were no muzzies to deal with.

His ancestors were from Asia.
Which makes it worthless.
Typically, the sale of body parts begins at clinical death. Skin, eyes, and various internal organs get donated by the deceased or their families, then sold.
1492 was a good year but the modern European f’d everything up again around 1960 with the Wirtschaftwunder and their import of bearded barbarians as cheap labor.
It was the most fateful, historical and expensive decision they ever made.
I’m pretty sure digging in a federally protected place like Gettysburg is against the law, and selling of human remains is of course illegal.
Good grief! Who auctions off a human skull? Who buys one? Pretty disgusting, IMO.
We need a relevant musical interlude.

I have a feeling there is a big "rest of the story" here that hasn't been made public yet. Somebody probably defrauded somebody. And even if the original story were true why wouldn't veterans organizations and/or the Army insist that this skull be treated as human remains and not a souvenir?
It was an Indian sharpshooter ready to take out a Union general. Brian Williams was there and took out the threat.
