It's a dopey tradition in Punxsutawney, largely designed to enhance the town's economy for a day or two every year. But really, the tradition ought to be scrapped. It's not a lot of fun for the groundhog.

I always get a kick out of the prediction. 6 more weeks of winter if he sees his shadow, or “spring is just around the corner” if he doesn't. Of course, technically, spring on the calendar comes in 6 weeks and how does one define the term “around the corner?” Six weeks?

I trap the gophers that invade my yard and only stick my hand down there when wearing heavy gloves. They may be little but they have a serious set of front teeth. More than one that was not killed by the trap has put his teeth into my glove.

I live in SP. The activity this morning might be why the damned roads were so messed up this morning.
The city plow trucks were off the roads at 7pm last night during an almost blizzard. But damned sure they had town square plowed out.
I’m glad that creature took a bit of the mayors neck out. He’s a demo/nazi anyways.

Now the groundhog’s gonna need rabies shots. As well as distemper, tetanus, polio, malaria, diphtheria, rubella, varicella, as well as the one that keeps your brain from shriveling up and floating out your ear-hole injections. Bet he swears off democrats!

I Feed the gophers in my yard...really!!They are way too cute to harm and they do minimal damage, if any. Their underground burrows are basically harmless and may improve irrigation. My Cat LOVES to play with them and stalks them all the time...she is declawed and thus harmless and I doubt that she is fast enough to catch them anyway. I Figure that they were here long before I bought the property so who is the interloper???...I also have rabbits living under my garden shed...I toss vegetable trimmings out to them during the winter also...

That is really unfortunate for the poor little groundhog. Now the groundhog has to go in and get shots. Somebody must really be angry at the groundhog to expose him to such danger.
