CNN) - It looks like something out of "Alien," but has more in common with "Jurassic Park."

It's a rare frilled shark that has been caught by a fisherman in Australia, where no one remembers ever seeing one caught before.

With a mouth packed full of needle-like teeth and a body like an eel, the six-foot long frilled shark is sometimes described as a fish "fossil" that dates back 80 million years.

On second thought, he probably doesn’t taste all that good. Does anyone question why this particular shark didn’t “evolve” over that “80 million years”?

Caught at 1100 meters, that’s 3600 feet down, wonder what else is down there.

I guess that’s what the angler wants to know, too.

Nobody fishes that deep for just food fish.

What commercially-viable, edible fish exists at that depth? For that matter, what sport fish go that deep?

Yup, if one was to catch a new species, your name would definitely go down in the history books.

We were never apes. That’s not what evolution teaches.

Maybe because it's 'environment' didn't change ?

Like you said, I’d send a ROV down with scum bait to see what else is prowling around down there. This guy looks like a juvenile, so there are likely more.

The more important question is... where do you get a fishing rod and reel with 4000 feet of line on it ?

I read something yesterday about this that said it was caught about 200 feet down. They’re not sure why it was so shallow. Maybe it was in the middle of evolving?
