We have a Maytag Bravos washer and I hate it.
It takes to long to wash a load, no matter what the size of the load.
The lid locks and you can't open it until an undetermined time period expires (seems to take forever).
While doing a load of laundry, the machine just sits there and doesn't do anything. A complete waste of time.
What type of washer do you have and do you like it? Would you recommend it?
Since we installed ours, no problems.
Before, when we had a power failure, I would shut a bunch of circuit breakers to the appliances off until the power came back on.
The electrician literally just snapped the arrestor into place—it looks like a double circuit breaker. I am not an electrician so I had one do the work thinking it would involve wiring etc.
When I saw him do and he was done in one second, I was like “Duh!”
Just buy a basic washer and dryer, no bells and whistles, available anywhere they sell appliances, brand not that important, it will last a very long time, maybe will need to replace a belt or a knob every 5 to 7 years or so, depending on how you use it.
I use to have several rental properties, I learned this the hard way, no frills no ills.

I hate my washing machine. It’s always borrowing money, staying up too late and clanging pots and dishes, and never vaccuums the living room. Hasn’t paid rent the last two months, either. I’m evicting.
I think you have just explained why over the past 50 years
I have missing sock now and then!
They are still run by microprocessors, whether they have a digital display or not. I think I have the same washer you have. I learned to just let it do its thing and ignore it. If you really must stop it to throw in another piece of laundry, just hold down the start button until the lid latch clicks open. Then just hit the start button to resume.
Only thing wrong with the Washer, the bottom rusted out, leaking water. Nothing wrong with the motor or gears.
That was the Whirlpools of yesterday, Speed Queen top loader for us now. If that lasts at least 10 years that may get me into the retirement center, and not have to worry about that stuff anymore.
Note!! must leave the washer door open to prevent any mold build up. I just do not see that as a problem. When we had the "top" loader, we left the door open.
Whirlpool bought Maytag several years ago.
The repairman told me that electrical power surges kill boards these days, as they all made in China with components that are not as stout as they were 15-20 years agoie, cheap pieces of crap.
...
Power surges are an age old excuse. The boards go bad all on their own.
Do you know the difference between a Roeper and a Maytag? Not a damn thing. I saw a maytag sitting on the showroom floor next to a roeper They were identical in every way, except that the maytag was $50 more.

There isn’t one microprocessor in my washer...I’ve had it all apart. It has a mechanical timer, relays, switches and all that, but no semiconductor devices. There are no lights on it at all, in fact.
We just purchased a new Samsung top loader. Has the new agitator, or lack thereof. We love it. I does take longer to do a load, I set the timer on my stove LOL, but now I can do all the big comforters we have without taking them to a Laundromat.
We have a Samsung front loader.....love it. It’s smart and easy to use, easy on water......lots of nice features, like, for example, automatic load adjustment.
Starts with WA456xxxx with Aquajet direct drive top loader with a tinted glass lid. Paid about six hundred.
TSP is a God send! That stuff works miracles on anything!
Never heard of a Roeper, but then I don’t buy Maytag as they aren’t in the category as I posted ....” the cheapest top loader...”
Usually just buy from the local independent as I don’t support the BIG Internationally funded, bottomline, don’t give a D-— about America stores if I can.
The computer eventually quit, the only repairman (who traveled from Montana) along with his tech support line couldn't fix it ($200 in parts later), so we declared it "brain dead" and pulled the plug.
The dryer was so poorly fit together that the outlet pipe underneath had about a gap because the diameter of the outlet (from the drum) was 1/4 inch smaller). This led to a buildup of lint in the dryer vent (low compression), and a buildup of very fine lint inside the dryer case, which flashed when it finally got to the heating coils.
Talk about acrid smoke! I never encountered anything that bad as a firefighter.
That was the end of that one...
They were replaced with a simple, no computer, top loading washer and a basic electric dryer (not sure of the brand), and I never regretted it. Mrs. Joe is happier, too.
W have a whirlpool that’s less than six years old and it’s on it’s last leg. We wish we had never sold the old maytag we had for 15 years.
I’ve had a Maytag front loader for quite awhile. I have horses and wash big heavy horse blankets in it. If you can stuff it into the washer, it will take care of it. You can’t wash horse blankets in a top loader because the straps get caught in the agitator. I run it empty through a cycle and then back to regular laundry. I leave the door open and occasionally wipe the seal with vinegar. No problems.
