The World Trade Organization has rejected U.S. rules requiring labels on packaged steaks, ribs and other cuts of meat identifying where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.
In a ruling Monday, the WTO said the requirements put Canadian and Mexican livestock at an unfair disadvantage.

you are what you eat....
Drop out of the WTO now!!!
We have a right to know where food was produced.
Those requirements fill volumes.
What is the difference in this case?
The obvious conclusion is that the US is a subservient nation to the WTO. If this is tolerable to you...sit down.
“the WTO said the requirements put Canadian and Mexican livestock at an unfair disadvantage. ”
if they cant compete on a well lit......open.....level playing field....they lose!
You go that right!
It’s been a while since I’ve followed this case, but the general rule-of-thumb is that your requirements must apply to all producers. The first version of the US COL regs only applied to Mexico and Canada, if I recall.
” ... requirements put Canadian and MEXICAN livestock at an unfair disadvantage.”
bs to that. I want to know if my meat comes from an ecoli hotbed like Mexico or some other third world nation.
The US Department of Agriculture better step up. Would it be okay for our pork to come from Liberia?
The difference is who the WTO favors, obviously.
Nobody does micromanaging like the EU. Even the Red Chinese are jealous.
So that “chicken” from Liberia with bits of fur and talon should be okay.....
"If you like your dachshund, you can eat your dachshund. Period."
It has wings so it must be chicken.

Great - guess it’s now OK to get unlabeled meat from China. Could be dog treats for all they care - and Chinese dog treats kill.
Life isn’t fair
I have no problem with Canadian food...Mexico on the other hand is a different story......
” the WTO said the requirements put Canadian and Mexican livestock at an unfair disadvantage.”
Tuff tacos eh? :-)
Liberals are less fair than life.
The WTO has apparently never heard of Mad Cow Disease
So questions I would assume all three country want to support buy from home products
So does this ruling apply to all countries involved?
Or is it just the US that can not label non domestic beef vs domestic as such?
