GALVESTON, Texas - A helicopter met up with a cruise ship with a Dallas health care worker aboard who is being monitored for signs of Ebola in order to take a blood sample for testing prior to the ship's arrival Sunday in Galveston.

Carnival Cruise Lines released a statement Saturday which read, "Today we were advised by Texas health officials that they felt it was necessary for the health care worker currently on Carnival Magic to submit a blood sample for testing prior to the ship's arrival in Galveston tomorrow morning. As a result, a helicopter rendezvoused with the ship late this afternoon to facilitate the transfer of the sample.

Seems like a lot of money to spend, for a blood sample, if she is not showing symptoms. The ship docks tomorrow morning.

Exactly. Can you imagine the price tag of obama’s insistence on hot stopping these flights?

It sure does. Why not wait until tomorrow if no symptoms?

I heard that passengers are asked if they have been exposed to Ebola before they go on the ship. Don’t know if true.

Are they planning to keep everyone on the ship if she has Ebola?

The guy who flew from Nigeria to JFK, vomited profusely and then died before landing? They looked at him, said, "No ebola" and let all the passengers go on their way.

Cruise Ship Lady? We need a helicopter to get her blood sample to a lab -- STAT!!

But I'm sure everything is fine.

I have heard various things at other sites stating the State dept was involved and that person is showing symptoms. They probably took the sample to determine if they need to quarantine 4300 passengers! Lost at sea.

Good point. She must be showing some symptoms. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Two notes: processing blood samples from dying Ebola patients is extremely hazardous. That was evidently this person's job. Either they have to wear full pressurized protection or do all the work inside an isolation box. I suspect he had neither.

Second, this is not norovirus, the cruise ship virus, so I would not consider his infection to be a hazard to anyone except people who had close contact with him and even in that case a small chance if he is not acute and they take reasonable precautions.

She could even test negative while showing symptoms, IIRC. This is nuts. If we have more cases outside of Dallas, this madness will just spread, while the real cases will be misdiagnosed and cause more infections.

Airlines and cruise companies cannot afford these disruptions.

A cruise ship would be one hell of a target for an ebola infected terrorist.

Is the test rapid enough for results by tomorrow?

Well, the idea of ‘hospital boat’ may be tried out sooner rather than later IF she’s infected.

This is 2014. A drop on a special platen by a technician and put in a little box would have allowed the world’s top virologists to examine it with google glass in hi-def first person immersion virtual reality. The technological retardation of our nation is the direct result of government siphoning of money out of the private sector to put their kids in private school in the DC area and an apartment/lexus payment.

Some vacation this must be.

I can’t imagine being trapped on that ship right now.

Darn right it is a nightmare.
What the heck is “deemed to be”. Who is the “deemed to be” person that is making that conclusion.
Who is paying for the ship to be totally cleaned so others can enjoy the next cruise?
Cruising has had a hard enough time lately because of the economy, can’t imagine what will happen now.
Not to mention the economy in general with people not wanting to take trips to any highly populated areas.

I would like to see Rush, Megyn, and others investigate this, and very thoroughly.

(Maybe they did and I just missed it?)
