The father of missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham held up his daughter's favorite stuffed rabbit for reporters to see. ... "I believe Jesse Matthew was the last person she was seen with before she vanished off the face of the Earth," the police chief said. "We want to talk to him."

Cannot imagine their anguish.
Well what the heck does Jesse Matthew look like?
I think the only thing we know is “dreadlocks” which is probably a worse sign on a white kid than a black one, honestly.
Black, over 200 lbs., with dreadlocks.
She's the fifth girl in five years to go missing from northern Virginia. Another recent high-profile case was that of Morgan Harrington who disappeared from a Metallica concert in 2009. Her body was found in a field three months later. She had been raped and strangled. Her murder remains unsolved.
Honestly: these days, if the cops name you as a “person of interest”, you **need** to lawyer up.
Remember Richard Jewell, identified as the “person of interest” in the Atlanta Olympics Bombing ? Innocent, but railroaded.
Or Stephen Hatfill, who was exonerated AFTER being driven to suicide by investigators into the Anthrax Attack of 2001. . .
The cops name whoever is convenient, and the narrative immediately become that they are the SUSPECT. . .
Wow. I can’t believe I asked.
That was racist of me and I should have known better.
Next time I won’t ask for a description of the perp.
Most criminals know that it is never in ones best interest to talk to LEO. There would be a lot of people walking around free today if they just kept their trap shut. Most people DO believe however, they can just “talk” their way out of things. In most cases, they are wrong. This case however will probably end in an arrest.
So when do *we* start rioting???
If I was questioned regarding an issue that I *knew* I had no part in I'd have no trouble talking to the cops.Without a lawyer.I'm *very* convincing when I'm telling the truth,as are most reasonably intelligent people. But I'm a *terrible* liar and a *terrible* actor so I wouldn't utter a single syllable to the cops if I *was* guilty.Except, maybe, with a prior OK from my lawyer.
They are British, but have lived in the US for 13 years.
I understand that. I also know the police were following him to a house, and he supposedly fled away at a high rate of speed, such that police had to end the pursuit. That is above and beyond just getting a lawyer.
Even if you “knew” you were “innocent” of an apparent crime, if the police view you as a credible suspect, it is not in your best interest to talk to LEO without an attorney, especially if the cops start using the Reid interrogation technique. The police are not your friends and are not going to believe what you say regardless. There are people incarcerated right now who believed, as you do, that if your have done nothing wrong, you will not be charged with a crime.
I did not realize, until recently, that the Harrington case is linked via DNA to another sexual assault in Fairfax ...”The suspect is described as an African-American male with black hair and facial hair at the time of the attack. He is approximately 60 tall and was believed to be between the ages of 25 and 35 years old at the time of the attack.” [link: http://www.fbi.gov/washingtondc/press-releases/2012/authorities-launch-multimedia-campaign-in-morgan-harrington-murder-case ]
Of course the police want to rule this latest guy in/out in the Harrington situation in addition to the Graham disappearance. He’s screwed himself badly by the reckless driving, giving the police cause to issue a warrant for his arrest when they don’t have evidence in the Graham case itself to arrest him.
I was in C’ville this weekend and saw some of the SAR effort - just driving around that area, it’s a daunting task to search it all.
The have DNA in Morgan Harrington's case.
Think this guy might be a little nervous?
Well, he is black...
“Or Stephen Hatfill, who was exonerated AFTER being driven to suicide by investigators into the Anthrax Attack of 2001. . .”
I think he’s still alive.
He supposedly took her to a wine bar in the Mall for a drink. If so, he could also be charged with “Impairing the morals of a minor” since she is only 18, and underage.
