15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense
Scientific American ^ | June, 2002 | John Rennie

Posted on 08/12/2014 8:09:40 PM PDT by JimSEA

When Charles Darwin introduced the theory of evolution through natural selection 143 years ago, the scientists of the day argued over it fiercely, but the massing evidence from paleontology, genetics, zoology, molecular biology and other fields gradually established evolution's truth beyond reasonable doubt. Today that battle has been won everywhere--except in the public imagination.

Embarrassingly, in the 21st century, in the most scientifically advanced nation the world has ever known, creationists can still persuade politicians, judges and ordinary citizens that evolution is a flawed, poorly supported fantasy. They lobby for creationist ideas such as "intelligent design" to be taught as alternatives to evolution in science classrooms. As this article goes to press, the Ohio Board of Education is debating whether to mandate such a change. Some antievolutionists, such as Philip E. Johnson, a law professor at the University of California at Berkeley and author of Darwin on Trial, admit that they intend for intelligent-design theory to serve as a "wedge" for reopening science classrooms to discussions of God.

Everyday life minute by minute, and nanosecond by nanosecond, is governed by chance, as taught by QM, Cf. , e.g. , Reif, Fundamentals of Statistical and Thermal Physics. All the so-called Laws of Physics are rooted in chance.

There are an abundance of transitional forms. The evolution of the eye from a cell sensitive to light is in the fossil record. Instincts and cross breeding are covered in the tree of life. There is a point in speciation when the two creatures can no longer breed. Burros and horses.

Question: With modern genetic engineering new species will be created and in the future science will probably create life from scratch.. so by what test will we be able to distinguish between man created vs naturally evolved species?...

>>Valid scientific theory incorporates facts, tested hypotheses, observations and laws. What laws does evolutionary theory incorporate, never mind any tested hypotheses? Scientific theories fall down flat all the time.<<

Name one Scientific Theory that “fell flat.” Newtonian Physics was supplanted (in part) by Einsteinian Physics in a nanosecond — science saw and accepted the change.

Please list the Scientific Theories that have “fallen flat.” I remind you that these must be Theories that have not been supplanted, since the remainders are still in force.

Or just admit you are speaking from unimaginable ignorance.

We can talk geology and deep time proofs, perhaps.

“That’s religion not science.”

So is Evolutionary theory.

Speak for yourself. Piltdown Man is a perfect example of how wishful thinking overcomes science in the public arena every time. The only reason Piltdown Man was ultimately exposed was because other more sophisticated hoaxes (Neanderthals, for one) took its place. The Scientific Method hasn’t yet overcome anthropogenic global warming, the gay gene, or—yes—spontaneous generation, because all of these hoaxes serve the wishful thinking of vested interests, the same as evolution.

Incidentally, you who “know things” evidently don’t understand your own delusion as well as you pretend: spontaneous generation is a necessary part of your evolutionary mythology. At some point, you have to believe that life formed from non-life in order for there to be any life to evolve at all. Therefore, by referring to spontaneous generation as “nonsense” you’ve discredited your own belief in evolution already and exposed your ignorance.

Knowledge without wisdom is a terrible folly: there’s no fool like an educated fool. Pursue wisdom rather than folly.

That’s not an answer.

As my tagline indicates, God governs our reality and has seen fit to offer us a pardon. The programer of our reality dictates the rules, both in physics and truth. Programer i.e. the Word!

Jhn 1:1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jhn 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

“Scientific American” is neither scientific nor American.

The Communist Piel family wrote "Scientific American." Mrs. Piel was head of the Emergency Civil Liberties Groups -- a Communist front organization.

nope. i’ve stated my beef, you read it. i believe God’is in control of everything, i believe His natural and physical laws make the universe stable and predictable. i think they work perfectly and our own understanding of those physical laws is imperfect and incomplete. we attempt to put them down but nobody’s bee able to do it and explain everything under a unified theory.

you do realize there are many, many evolutionists who do not agree with you.

many explicitly state they are evolutionists because to believe in God is so unpalatable for them.

>>Funny you keep repeating the phrase “you don’t know what a scientific theory is” while not deigning to explain what you think it is—unless you fear disagreement over your definition.<<

OK - a Scientific Theory is a broad general physical explanation of an observed phenomenon — that is off the top of my head and not Googled. We know more about The Theory of Evolution than The Theory of Gravity. We have millions (if not billions) of artifacts that consistently support TToE across multiple disciplines - physics, geology, astronomy (yep), cosmetology — all paint a consistent picture.

>>What is your scientific background, if I may inquire?<<

The thirst for knowledge — and I hang out with some of te smartest people on the planet. I also have a college degree that included both science and theology (graduate level on the latter and my roommate was a theology student).

God is not mocked, in any way, by a sincere attempt from anyone to understand His creation.

“Thou shalt not put the Lord, your God, to the test”

That is what you are doing when you demand that Biblical metaphors be supported by science.

If they are evolution convinced, they don’t disagree with me. I have normative beliefs entirely apart form my acceptance of the theory of evolution (which I don’t “believe in” but which I am convinced of its scientific validity). My faith is Christian.

Irreducible complexity from an engineering and informational science perspective closes the door to anything but intelligent design.

Pure nonsense. The fact that we do not currently understand the mechanics of a given object or subject does in no way default the ultimate answer to "Intelligent Design". Such an absurd conclusion and statement defies reason.
