I have spent a little time compiling links to threads about the Ebola outbreak in the interest of having all the links in one thread for future reference.
Please add links to new threads and articles of interest as the situation develops.
Thank You all for you participation.
The issue with ebola would seem to be fomites.
If someone sweats on a surface and then you later touch that surface and then your face, you’re probably a goner.
Given the presence of ecoli on nearly every surface on the planet, that would be a problem.
HIV doesn’t seem to effectively transmit in that manner.
Thank goodness.
“Ebola striking women more frequently than men”
Scroll for a pic of the photog. We may be looking at another European victim in a couple weeks.

“WILL OCKENDEN: Dr Ibrahim spends his day treating case after case of the deadly virus Ebola.
DR IBRAHIM: I saw some patients dying, suffering and that’s something emotionally hard.
WILL OCKENDEN: He works in a clinic in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, for the Infection Diseases Department.
Ebola has been his full time job since the first case was discovered several months ago. ...”
From the interview with the doctor from MSF:
In Geneva, MSF president Joanne Liu said the situation is deteriorating fast.
JOANNE LIU: It’s moving; it’s advancing, but we have no clue how it’s going to go around.
So not all experts are quite so sanguine about the containment of Ebola.

Enugu is where the quarantined nurse fled.
You sort of missed the whole point of the thread. It’s a catalogue of short items and links to posted threads for the record, unifying the Ebola threads.
Much appreciated by the old ebola and flu hands.
Sometimes it pays to read the original post to understand what’s going on.
Hope this saves you agony in the future.
Have a good one.
It’s by no means a sure thing at this point.
I think that’s why so many westerners are headed there. If we can’t put out the fire there it will travel to the first world. And after a couple months there, our hospitals will look no different from the ones in west africa right now.
I gather from your profile (and some of your comments) that you are from North Jersey. If I was from any where near NYC, I would be keeping quite a close eye on this.
As it is, I have many family members who either work or live there.
“At the moment, these models at least for Sierra Leone and Liberia we aren’t putting in any mitigating factors. We’re just letting these things run unthrottled,” Lewis says. “And they’ve just been surging up. And they’ve been, unfortunately, accurate in the last couple of weeks in terms of the number of cases coming out.”
.... and closes with the standard, “ we know how to control Ebola, it’s simple.”
....but
I lived in NJ for a few years but have since located to the rural deep south.
I grew up in West Africa though, hence my interest. Particularly since it hit Lagos.
I don’t see these posts as being indicative of OC at all. There is real social concern and regard for public health. Not to mention the underlying understanding that so many of us do not have the time to search extensively on the web but want to stay abreast of the latest developments.
Now why would you jump to such a conclusion? I wonder if it isn’t your work or study. My friends and family members in psych professions certainly aren’t thinking along those lines of OC in viewing the consolidation of ebola information posted here. There are many who wouldn’t read on this site except when something is so topical that either the media can’t keep up with the actual event or there is a general sense that the media is suppressing coverage for a political or vested interest. When either situation occurs, many surf this site and others like it. Sometimes they remain as regular readers.

Boko Haram had mentioned using women as suicide bombers a few days ago, but a 10 year old child?
B-H also conducted an attack in the north east of Nigeria killing and wounding about a hundred IIRC and departed with more hostages as reported today.
