Dark Wing,

The four people who shared Mr. Duncan's apartment unit when he was highly contagious have not yet come down with Ebola. Their last contact with him was on September 28. It is now 2200 Dallas time on October 12, 15 days later, and there is still no report that any of those four have even developed temperatures above 98.6 F.

I repeat that LUCK has a lot to do with contracting Ebola.

"Dallas will be lucky if there are less than eight secondary cases from Thomas Eric Duncan in the first generation of infection.

Texas Presby is running 1 in 26 of the PPE-2 protected HCW not in the high risk group getting Ebola.

You cannot be in the same room with a late Ebola case in PPE-2 without someone getting infected, especially if they have the infected _intubated_ and are running _dialysis_, for Pete’s sake."

It looks like our CDC is using Ethiopia as their model for handling Ebola here.

Lie, deny, threaten all who are whistle-blowers

It’s my understanding that CDC guides...but cannot just walk into a state per-say ‘unless invited’, as they were in Dallas. Rather... it’s each state and local people to prepare and act on how CDC might instruct/advise... to bring together those to determine how they will implement what’s recommended.

Certain things are up to Homeland Security...things like air-flights and borders....that’s not the CDC’s job. So it’s a matter of who is designated, within what areas of need are, and the teams they might put together.

In Africa they wear dual gloves and help each other to dress and undress from the suites...Not so sure the medical staff here in the states has set themselves up for doing that as well. There should be two or more attending anyone who is dressing or undressing to make sure “human error” is at the very least.

I watched a video early on with this virus...and even the ‘least’ protected medical workers in Africa, when just taking off their gloves were very careful to take them off in such a way they were inside out....and then they burned them then and right there a few feet away.

Let’s not forget too that this Dallas worker helped also with putting the body into the bag....which is when an Ebola patient (dead) is ‘most’ infectious....it’s like a factory of Ebola pumping out then.

This is to rebut allllll the libs who are screaming we’d have a vaccine by now were it not for those heartless Republicans. Governor Jindahl gets it.

Excellent letter/article by Gov Jindal. Thanks for the link. Should be a separate thread.

....”Unfortunately, they are really important cell types. And some of them are blood cells, so the virus travels throughout the body”....

I did read there are certain cells this virus is more attracted to than others...but these others become more involved as the virus does it's damage throughout the body. From the lymph node system to other parts of the body system...until it seems like the body becomes a gigantic war zone....

Interesting you mentioning UV light damages the RNA.....I read they have a robot type thing which can go into an infected room and pretty much by the light emitted destroy the virus...I suspect thought that will take time to fine tune.

BTW...Has anyone ever observed the virus strand dying or breaking down?

As mentioned ..it is very confusing to understand how it affects the various minute systems in the body as it goes through the stages of destruction....at least for myself. ..because reading the information, and use of technical verbiage, is like reading another language, even when you read what you do understand..

I'll go to the diagram now....but you don;t have to apologize it's on a Russian site....I go where ever the information is that can be given.

Thank you again for your time.

Just a note. Fever according to MSF is not a primary initial symptom. I think the number was 36% that presented without fever. For the record.

.
Probably not!

The condition of your own body has the most to do with whether you contract an infection. A weakened immune response is an invitation to every disease that comes along.

caww:" There should be two or more attending anyone who is dressing or undressing to make sure “human error” is at the very least."

Right from the Scout manual- the "Buddy System'.

The problem regarding Fed /DHS/NIH/CDC/State Health Dept. is that there is NO ONE PERSON coodinating resources.
The FED and CDC are givning out the :'Do Not Panic' message, and are minimizing Ebola to keep the all the borders open, per the PC montra.
*MSF maintains the 'buddy system' so that partners can watch each other; that way they can avoid contamination; has the same protocal been established by the CDC ?
* Health Care workers are rightfully concerned about the quality of their equipment and the ability to risk exposure; they see bio-Hazzard IV suits in Africa
Why aren't they avaiable to all health care professionals here (other than $$$) ?
At $500,000 per hospitalization for Ebola, that would pay for a lot of HAZMAT suits, and save money .
* The CDC in their bio-hazzard level IV labs have several decontamination zones (chemical/baths/UV/etc.) and they are trained by rote repetition to follow these exactly
are these same protocals and repetition available to current HCW , or do they just get a 15 minute slide presentation?.. That is a program designed to fail !!
Yes , you are right about the most serious risk of infectious being the deceased body since it is 'dead weight' and involves physical exertion by the medical staff.
* I read here that 'clean up' crews wore HAZMAT suits after a death in the room ; shouldn't that also be available to health care workers
who are exposed to the virus on several occassions each day, sometimes by more than one patient ?
This is no time to go CHEAP ! One hospitalization could buy approximately 50,000 HAZMAT suits.

A couple of thoughts on your post: we keep hearing about "hazmat" suits. As I understand "hazmat" is short for hazardous material. Do we make a distinction between hazardous material and hazardous waste? And more importantly, is there a distinction between a hazmat suit and a bio-hazard suit?

Secondly, I see the need, down the road, for dedicated decontamination personnel.

Post #8503 Worthy of a Read:
What a Find !

The Facts About Ebola Funding By GOV. BOBBY JINDAL ,

October 12, 2014
http://linkis.com/www.politico.com/mag/8lXDI

"Our Constitution states that the federal government “shall protect each of [the States] against Invasion”—
-a statement that should apply as much to infectious disease as to foreign powers.
So when that same government prioritizes funding for jungle gyms and bike paths
over steps to protect our nation from possible pandemics, citizens have every right to question the decisions that got us to this point.

"In her speech, Secretary Clinton said, “too often our health care debates are clouded by ideology, rather than illuminated by data.”
I couldn’t agree more. But in this case, the data show not that the CDC faced a lack of funding, but misplaced priorities
for that funding based on choices made by the Obama administration."

WOW!.... This is an excellent diagram of Ebola....and there’s a magnifier to take a close look at... plus a great side discript and a more extensive one below the photo...Thanks!!!!!

It is an excellent visual of the virus. I'm considering getting some grey felt and red yarn to make my own Ebola virus, to match that graphic. My cubicle neighbor has an Ebola plushy, so why not?

Interesting info. there TIK....

Well our dear leader just stated $200 million will be sent for “rebuilding Gaza”!........Let the dang Muslim nations rebuild Gaza and use that money to suite up our people for THIS crisis!

I truly believe this President is sending any and all monies we might ever hope to see ..abroad....and he’s dishing it out to third world nations like a dish full of candy!

I do understand there’s a problem with who is coordinating what in all areas..from HLS to CDC not to mention our Pres. gets info from his TV so he’s certainly not leading this charge nor more than he has any other.

But then this does happen when Government is so large nobody knows who they’re really working for...everybody wants to play King but nobody steps up to the plate.

I hear they can’t even find the Surgeon General...though he’s not been confirmed yet....you’d think he’d be steeping up to the plate but we have nobody handling OUR nations affairs that need handling now....

Sorry about the rant...just very frustrated as are most today.

It definitely looks nicer in that graphic than in most of the electron micrographs that I see.
