I have spent a little time compiling links to threads about the Ebola outbreak in the interest of having all the links in one thread for future reference.
Please add links to new threads and articles of interest as the situation develops.
Thank You all for you participation.
“CDC: Ebola could rapidly spread beyond West Africa”
I was just about to say that it looks as if the dam may break wide open in Nigeria. It surely looks that way.
They won’t be able to keep the lid on this much longer.
I imagine Frieden isn’t sleeping so well after his visit to Africa.
Good.
Other patients are dying from diseases which mimic Ebola symptoms: from the article:
What is happening now is a bad commentary on the healthcare system in Nigeria. We all know that Ebola is highly contagious but that does not mean that people should be left to die. I would not say that we should not sympathise with them, they should also see the contagious nature of the diseases as one of the many hazards of their profession, President of Citizens Advocacy Unit,CAU, Dr. Muyiwa Falae told VF.

Pic at the top shows the PPE the medicos are striking over having to wear (grammar alert!)
I just saw updates for Aug 28 (Senegal) and Aug 30 (West Africa).

I can’t blame them for wanting better PPE. That reminds me of the ‘plastic sheeting and duct tape’ for NBC attacks...

Dr.Chan:
No one, even outbreak responders none of them have ever seen anything like it.

As of this week, we are reporting 3500 cases confirmed. More than 1900 deaths.
____________________________________________
Nigeria: the outbreak in Lagos is much smaller and most cases are linked to an air traveler from Liberia. One of those contacts evaded monitoring and went to Port Harcourt.
Then we turn to Senegal. This is an imported case. A young person who drove to Senegal. The government is still reporting only one case.
DR Congo - this outbreak is smaller. We have epidemiological evidence and sequencing to demonstrate that this is an independent outbreak. It is not a spread from West Africa to Central Africa.
It has become a global threat.
The scientific community will be convened on Thurs. & Fri. this week to look at one of the most promising experimental therapies and vaccines..that the scientific community said that we could fast track....

Bon chance dude.
Too bad we can’t do this from orbit...
Thanks for that info.
Interesting that Dr. Chan chose this venue to announced the case and mortality numbers instead of using the WHO-Africa web site. Maybe they’ll update this pm.
