I have spent a little time compiling links to threads about the Ebola outbreak in the interest of having all the links in one thread for future reference.

Please add links to new threads and articles of interest as the situation develops.

Thank You all for you participation.

I just went back to that link to close the tab and decided to click on the slideshow pics at the top.

I encourage you to do so if you haven’t.

What do you notice about the Chinese port authorities response to this disease. Compare and contrast with our own...

“Liberia to unseal slum cordoned off to stop Ebola”

Well geee...wonder what that will do the ebola transmission in Monrovia...

I wonder whose chain got pulled into this. If I were a westerner still in Monrovia/Liberia I’d promptly evac. It’s like they want mass African deaths.

Yep. I have noticed the Chinese are not taking any chances. With today’s news of ISIS and the ongoing pandemic, the Chinese have also provided us with our own curse. “May you live in interesting times.” That it is. Thanks for all the posts.

It would seem that metabolic rates would be higher in monkeys than humans, and that monkeys might show symptoms earlier.

Perhaps.

I might propose alternately, that ebola and monkeys have been around far longer and it’s figured out monkeys more efficiently than it has humans. So far. It’s throwing genetic spaghetti at the wall in the current outbreak with the H2H2H2H...transmission chain so who knows what sort of mutations will enable it to do the same with us, ultimately.

Read the article. I can’t decide which part is more disturbing. We can take a vote on the different bits though if you want.

(bleaching a hotel room is up at the top though...because nobody would ever notice the smell or ruined furniture/carpeting).

Now look at the slideshow of our ports and how our government allows cargo from infected countries to be shipped here only under the most rigorous controls, and demands that decontamination measures are carefully being followed, for the safety and well-being of crew and US citizens.

Bahahahaha. I just cracked myself up.

That’s a good one to choose.

My pick is kind of a two-parter. The first part is Dr. Enemou who first treated a known ebola patient in a hotel room, under the table, and in secret, putting everyone in the hotel at risk, notably the hotel staff. Then when he realized he was likewise infected, he lied to HIS doctor to get treatment, thereby putting everyone at the hospital at risk. He was a greedy low-life in my estimation. Whatever reputation he had as a “fine” doctor has been completely ravaged by his own selfish actions, which were completely foolish, unethical, and frankly, homicidal.

The second part is the doctor who treated Enemou who, according to this article, couldn’t figure out the strange ailment the now deceased doctor had. He even went so far as to consult other doctors and invited them to look at this case study. His colleagues were too fearful to come to the hospital because of the threat of... wait for it...EBOLA!

I can see the wheels spinning in his head now.

“Hmmm. This is surely a head-scratcher. Patient here in West Africa is exhibiting symptoms such as fever, vomiting and stooling, sometimes with blood, and has red eyes. Suspected malaria or typhoid, but both of those blood tests have returned negative. Patient seems to be hiding something as well. Oh, what could this elusive illness be?”

Not having this diagnosis of EVD put the hospital staff at further risk, with the highest risk to the morticians who handled his dead body, which was full of virus, likely infecting them.

It’s like a bad— and I mean el-stinko— plot to a movie.

Very scary. But if one were to voice their concerns, they would probably be called “racist”.

Ugh.

BTW, Lagos is the financial and business center of Nigeria. Abuja is the national capital. But Port Harcourt is like their ‘Houston’. It’s the center of the oil industry. All the international oil companies have their headquarters and large facilities there. This reason is behind the Nigerian denial denial denial that there might be a problem in Port Harcourt. This is their worst nightmare come true.

Ebola out and about in Lagos would be bad enough given its population density and the damage to business there. But Ebola in Port Harcourt threatens their oil income. In a big way. They won’t be playing around now that they know it’s there.

Unlike Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, Nigeria can afford a police state.

“Local hospitals prepare for Ebola but stress risk is low”

““Ultimately, any U.S. hospital following CDC’s infection control recommendation that’s able to isolate a patient in a private room is capable of safely managing a patient with Ebola virus disease,” Dr. David Kuhar, who is overseeing the Ebola outbreak for the CDC, said during a recent conference call with hospitals.”

“Worse, such an approach suggests that the only defence is individual protective equipment, which is inaccessible to the general population. Moreover, the image of workers with spectacular protective clothing might contribute to the panic in some communities.”
