Rest in Peace Mr. Hastings!

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Actually, that is Joe Flynn ( though he does look like Phil Silvers)

Elroy!

He did a good job portraying the idiot, brown-nosing, groveling sidekick. I wonder if he ever got promoted?

RIP

Not many of the guys from McHale’s Navy are left. There’s Tim Conway, Gavin MacLeod and I don’t know who else.

Thanks to syndication, I was able to watch McHale’s Navy in the early 1980s. Always good for a laugh what with all that classic comedic talent that they had.

I suspect “Groober” is probably deceased as he was one of the older crewmen. Fuji might still be alive.

Wow. Just didn’t realize he was that advanced in years. I loved McHale’s Navy and Bob was one of the reasons why.

TV was fun in those days

Ah, disregard my previous post, still ignorant on early TV stars. Do dimly recall Phil Silvers as something Bilko.

Met him at a old time radio con here in Cincinnati; a class act.

Gruber (Carl Ballantine) actually only died a few short years ago. He lived to a good old age. The guy who played Virgil died about a year ago or so, as did Borgnine himself.

I guess the only ones from the show still surviving are Tim Conway, the guy who played Fugi, Gavin MacLeod, and the hillbilly character Willy (who was the real-life son of husband-wife country superstars Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright, if memory serves me).

McHale’s Navy was basically a takeoff on Phil Silvers’ “You’ll Never Get Rich” except changed to Navy and WWII. As was the cartoon “Top Cat”.
