While appearing on CNN Wednesday night, actor Morgan Freeman spread some refreshing ideas about debating income inequality in the United States.
Freeman stood up for the middle-class, telling host Don Lemon that without the middle-class, there would be no way to continue being a great nation of consumers.
When Lemon asked the actor whether he believed that race was a major contributing factor to income inequality, Freeman sternly disagreed.
Do you think that race plays in a part in wealth distribution? Lemon asked.
No, no, no, I dont. You and I are, were proof. Why would race have anything to do with it. Put your mind to what you want to do and go for that. Its kind of like religion to me, its a good excuse for not getting there, Freeman answered.

He’s an odd one. He likes to skirt the plantation. He’s been pretty honest about blacks only to turn around and say racism created the tea party.
What just happened, here?
I guess it’s better to light one candle than curse the darkness. He’s got this one right, I’ll give him that much.
It’s always easier to blame someone else for your poverty than to get off your ass and do something about it.
Holy Crap! That from Freeman? What is the world coming to.
I guess Blacks are starting to figure out they’ve been had by the Dems.
“Jim Crow South. “
And Jim Crow North, where Jim Crow Laws started.
“Hes an odd one. He likes to skirt the plantation. Hes been pretty honest about blacks only to turn around and say racism created the tea party.”

Agreed. But his idea of building the middle class would be to raise minimum wages, cap executive pay, give unions more power, have single-payer health care for everyone, and increase compensation for government workers.
You have to remember Freeman's roots. His partner in both Ground Zero club and Mahabi (sp) is a very liberal trial lawyer and politician. I think he had a lot of influence on Freeman's politics and might help explain his “skirting the plantation”. Great phrase. I may have to steal it.
I think Mahabi went bankrupt, but I do believe Ground Zero is doing well.
Nowhere was the Klan more powerful than in the midwest during the progressive Wilson era. Illinois seems to have been ground zero.
Maybe he likes being rich.
I can’t give him a pass for being married to his step grandaughter.
Never trust the Hollyweirders (except for Gary Sinise).

I saw him on his shoe Through the Worm Hole on SciTV last night. The episode was about human ideals of ‘fairness’ and inequality may be in our genetic makeup.
Tests with primates, specifically monkeys, showed that they would accept certain levels of inequality in rewards for tasks, but not inequity.
They took two monkeys in side by side cages, had them perform the same task. One was given a piece of bell pepper for a reward, which they like, and the other was given a grape, which they like better. The monkey that got the bell pepper had a fit.
The alpha male that got the grape would eventually turn it down rather than accept it in front of the other monkey.
Blind squirrels and clocks.
Seriously? WTF?
He’s a mixed bag:
Politics
Freeman endorsed Barack Obama’s candidacy for the 2008 presidential election, although he stated that he would not join Obama’s campaign.[42] He narrates for The Hall of Presidents with Barack Obama, who has been added to the exhibit.[43][44] The Hall of Presidents re-opened on July 4, 2009, at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.[44] Freeman joined President Bill Clinton, USA Bid Committee Chairman Sunil Gulati, and USMNT midfielder Landon Donovan on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, in Zurich for the U.S. bid committee’s final presentation to FIFA for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.[45]
Comments on racism
Freeman has publicly criticized the celebration of Black History Month and does not participate in any related events, saying, “I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American history.”[46] He says the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it, and he notes that there is no “white history month.”[47] Freeman once said on an interview with 60 Minutes’s Mike Wallace, “I am going to stop calling you a white man and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man.”[46][48] Freeman supported the defeated proposal to change the Mississippi state flag, which contains the Confederate battle flag.[49][50] Freeman sparked controversy in 2011 when, on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, he accused the Tea Party movement of racism.[51][52][53]
