'Biggest dinosaur ever' discovered
BBC ^ | 16 May 2014 | James Morgan

Posted on 05/17/2014 10:54:58 AM PDT by Izzy Dunne

Based on its huge thigh bones, it was 40m (130ft) long and 20m (65ft) tall.

Weighing in at 77 tonnes, it was as heavy as 14 African elephants, and seven tonnes heavier than the previous record holder, Argentinosaurus.

Scientists believe it is a new species of titanosaur - an enormous herbivore dating from the Late Cretaceous period.

A local farm worker first stumbled on the remains in the desert near La Flecha, about 250km (135 miles) west of Trelew, Patagonia.

How’d they get Dr. Gregory House to pose with it? Too bad it wasn’t 13!

You must be a really old Lady if you know that!

Just how many hours a day did you watch them eat to be sure that they weren’t eating the protected mice?

>> “And based upon that one bone how are they going to guess what it looked like???” <<

.
At least they have a whole bone this time!

The constructed “Lucy” out of four small fragments of bone found in four separate holes.

Scientists in the 18th-19th Century - “The stories of Dragons are all fables, no animal could be that large, and reptiles don’t fly”

Scientist in the 20th and 21st Century - “ We have discovered gigantic dinosaurs, and reptiles with large wingspans”

That critter was very possibly alive in the 17th or 18th century.

Just look at the condition of the bone.

NOBODY says the bones are fakes (please find me a link to someone who does) what is at issue is what is the AGE of the bones.

And my comment about dragons vs dinosaurs has NO religious content to it, so why do you bring that up?

Your religious bigotry is short-circuiting your thinking and reasoning ability.

You can’t tell how old a bone is by a picture.

I, in particular do not believe fossils are “fake”, nor do 99% of people.

What is at issue is how old are the bones.

If, for example, the cut into the bone and find blood cells, then I would tend to believe it is thousands of years old, not millions....why? because viable tissue and blood cells cannot survive millions of years - they would have undergone complete mineralization by then.

No. A well dated female Australopithecus afarensis of which many fossils have been identified and dated at 3.2 million years ago. Her bone structure was quite unlike any ape as she was up right and bipedal. A good book about her is: Johanson, Donald C., and Kate Wong. Lucy’s Legacy. N.p.: Crown Publishing, 2009. Johanson discovered the fossil.

My biggest problem with creationist science is that they make up things to either support their arguments or attack scientific theories with which they disagree or they feel threaten their own assertions. They know their are basing everything on straw man arguments and complete flights of fantasy but keep doing is for the money they get from sincere Christians. I bring this up because I’ve read the “four monkey bones” theory of Lucy at their sites.
