Your Favorite Biblical Movie?

Posted on 04/18/2014 8:41:31 PM PDT by MNDude

There are lots of Biblical Movies coming out this year (Son of God, Noah), but I don't think many compare to some of the older ones (like Ten Commandments, Passion of the Christ).

What is your favorite Biblical movie?

Another great movie ... and yes, I’m old, almost as old as dirt. LOL!

“Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ” by Lew Wallace is a fantastic book. Be sure to read it.

Good one. We are should be on a mission from God. Too bad Belushi didn’t see how much he needed God.

I was in a college English class with pianist Van Cliburn.

I saw ole Harvey play in 1973 in San Antonio, while I was stationed at Laughlin. I would guess he was one of the best piano players the world has ever seen. I was a young troop in those days :-)

If you haven’t seen the “Joseph” film from the Ted Turner people from the ‘80s, you should. There was “Abraham”, with Richard Harris and Barbara Hershey; the “Joseph” piece starred Paul Mercurio as Joseph, perfectly cast, sumptuously filmed, and with a Potiphar’s wife who could turn any red-blooded buy into a puddle at a moment’s notice.
Strangely obscure, which is surprising given the power of the piece.
Hope you check them both out!

Yes it was good. See, I knew no one had ever heard of it. It came out in 1971. You can google it, as it is still available. It had quite an impact on me. Bob Jones himself, and either his son or grandson were in it.

Yes, he was. However, it was hard for me to move from our college days together and see him on the world stage. We were at Kilgore Jr. College that summer. It does say our friends have talents we may not recognize. We were just young people in school, no big deal.

“You could write a book!”

I also had/have personal reason to dislike in the extreme Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Robe.

Agreed. I last watched it when I was a kid and while, I remembered the movie, I had forgotten just how good it was. I DVR'd it over Christmas and watch it quite often now.

The movie “Jesus”, a straightforward account of the Gospel of Luke that was in theatres back in the late 70s, early 80s is the best commercial film about the subject I have seen. Excellently done, not overly done or warped to fit Hollywood values. I believe the film was funded by Campus Crusade for Christ and used by them in reaching others with the Gospel.

Looks like it is now available in DVD in several different languages.

Surprised it took to post 48 to get to the Ted Turner ones. Amazing, isn’t it, that a man like TT presided over some of the best and most accurate biblical movies ever.

Abraham and Joseph especially kept quite close to the book.
