The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
No worries, just keep an eye on the forecast and cover them if it happens to get too cool.
I just looked at our forecast from Houston and it says it will be 39 TUESDAY NIGHT in Conroe!
sockmonkey, check wherever you check your coming weather and see if you have in the 30s Tuesday night. Crap, I don’t want this. This is April shower month, not 30s month!
The only way to stay safe in this kind of situation, is to have what you need for a long time so you don’t have to leave your property.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Remember the TB Sanitoriums? I wonder if they would remove people for quarantine like that?
There were two TB sanitoriums in my town before my time. The buildings at the old TB Hospital in San Antonio look like the buildings in Auschwitz.
When I worked at the Community Mental Health Clinic back in the 90's, there were 22 clients with TB..yep, those were the active cases.
Accuweather is the only one calling for 30's. Weather Cahnnel, and Wunderground show mid 40's, IIRC...even though I just looked twenty seconds ago, it was 40's for the both of us.
You’re talking rain. Please send some to the TX Hill Country. All we get is forecasts for rain. Then when it’s the “rain time”-bumpkis, nada, big fat nothing.
BTW, I now have 38 tomato plants outside or in smart pots, so it better not freeze, hail, blue norther, or anything else on them. I still have 9 in the greenhouse, and twelve outside in their 6 pack thingies. All but twelve of the tomatoes are “mystery” tomatoes that were free at the Mom & Pop nursery.
Lol, what do I need with 53 tomato plants? I must be crazy.
Now the people with TB run around all over the place, and fail to take all their meds, and that helps resistant strains to develop.
Socks wish we could send some rains to you. Like johnny says ‘that’s above the pay grade’.
So we PFR instead for you. Frustrating to know rain is close by and your region isn’t getting any.
My sister-in-law has TB but it’s a type that is not communicable. She takes several different kinds of antibiotics a day for a year, then will be checked again to see if she still has it. They don’t know where she got it.
LOL! Now that makes sense!
It is not as contagious as they once thought it was anyway. I am sure your SIL is responsible enough to finish her anitbiotics. The problem is with those who don’t.
We had dinner with a couple that does volunteer work in a large public hospital on the I-10 corridor(east/west along the gulf coast). They said TB and other long time, rarely seen illnesses were coming back big because of illegal immigration. No criminal background checks, no health checks, nothing on millions of people coming here every year.
We had a wet mist in the air part of yesterday, and a light shower that was so short it didn’t even wet and ruin the cardboard boxes I pitched out of the garage. So much for 1/2” of rain. I will have to manually turn on the irrigation to make it up. We were looking forward to a decent rainfall to wash the pollen and the oak blooms away. My wife’s allergies have her itching very badly, but the sinuses are okay, which is unusual.
She gets one cataract removed Wed, another in two weeks. I’m afraid when she can see me, she will leave!
Today the yard guys come and clean up. It will be nice to be rid of weeds and tall grass.
rightly_dividing,,, I’ll give you some of this rain we’re getting now , over 4” in the last 2-days .And still coming down ,under storm warnings this morning .
Cranberry upside down cake and cranberry oatmeal cookies
Yep that’s an issue too.
Rain just started here again. Hubby had to divert it out of the pool. All that weight made it shift, so it’s not level. He’s got to use the current 2000 gallons, so that he can relevel.
Which likely means we’ll go into the drought months with only 2000 gallons instead of 4400.
Well I’ve only had 3 hours sleep, and a headache just hit, and the print is blurry, and the computer light is bothering my eyes, so I’m going to take a Tylenol and go back to bed and see if I can catch a few more zzzzzzs.
I just got up from taking a few more zzzz’s. The yard guys are here and doing their thing.
I have watched our drains from the roof gutters and we never have a very good flow. We have the gutters blown clean every 2 weeks during leaf season, but still the flow would not fill a small plastic pool in a year, so it seems. I was amazed that you filled your pool so quickly. I may try to catch rain and see just how much I can get.
I'd like to get a 1500 gallon black ABS tank, but those cost $$s and unless I find one on the side of the road, that's not going to happen. ;)
