The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. 10 means 10 millimeters, meaning metric. Or 3/8” is almost the same in American.
A little hint to help out. Get all the screws started before tightening them, It will be easier to put the last ones in if there is some wiggle room.
I got one tight, this will take a while. I’m using a small wrench with a hole type on one end and an open type on the other end. It is cramped where I have to tighten the screws so it’s not easy. I think a man’s hand would have trouble working in these small spaces. Eventually, I’ll get to them all but there are a lot. This is the whole frame put together but top and bottom shelf are not attached yet. Need to get the frame solid before I do that.
If I ever get it all tightened, will let you know.
My lower back totally crashed, as in major pain while I was trying to tighten the second screw. It was ready to crash due to putting the frame together. I don’t know why we don’t have plug in extra parts for backs. The rest of the tightening will have to wait until tomorrow as moving right now isn’t going to happen. I’ll take a pain pill.
When this happens, it feels like there are a thousand little bones crunching together in lower back. I have described it that way for years. Surgeon says surgery would make it worse and best thing to do for it is not gain weight. I weigh the same I did then so haven’t added weight.
As you know, some things can’t be fixed, just have to deal with it. Putting those legs and braces together wasn’t easy with them trying to go different directions. Bet you have a vise to hold stuff when you are working on it.
Taking pain pill now.
I sympathize with you, back pain is one of the worst, in my opinion.

another thing you might want to buy is one of those little Black and Decker rechargeable battery screwdrivers. Get a little set of different sized screw driver heads, and drill bits for it..It beats using a regular screw driver anyday, and the little drill bits are great for drilling pilot holes for screws.
“You can hold the screw in place with a screwdriver, and using the ratchet action of the wrench, tighten the nut.. Hope that helps.”
I have all those tools but the space where the nut is, is too small to allow use of direct ratchet action. However, I’ll find the ratchet stuff tomorrow as I know there is an extension to that for small places. All those tools are in the storage room in a Craftsman standing tool box with drawers.
I have several gator grips but they are all too big to get in that small space. There is a smaller one but it’s still not small enough for that space.
B&D makes a small, light rechargeable. It changes direction by turning it the other direction, twist it, and the more it tilts, the faster it goes. I bought one just as a gimmick to play with, but I did use it changing out door knobs. It’s just right for women or small jobs, or small women. It came fully charged and I’ve never charged it in 1 1/2 years. Lowes had them for $29.95 at Christmas.
The directions were to put it together to this point without tightening so all of them are screwed in but loosely. All of them have to be tightened except for that single one I finally got tight. I think I’m stripping the Phillips head on the two screwdrivers I have inside and need to get a Craftsman Phillips out of storage room tomorrow.
Okay, you ladies have one upped me. I’m not familiar with gator grips. I will search and learn. They must have come out after I threw out the TV.

I have two of the B&D rechargeable screwdrivers, but they have skinny straight handles. One of them, you can bend the handle. I used it a lot when I was putting my Texas Prepper’s Greenhouse together. Also use it for screwing deck screws in, making raised beds, cattle panel frames for cucuzza..
I have those cattle panels up, and my Italian friend from NOLA told me her Nonna used to grow, and cook cucuzzi, dip in egg, bread, fry in olive oil..

Now, don't laugh - I HAVE ONE and it is the Black and Decker - husband bought that one for me. I just got it out of “my” tool bag I keep in the house. And guess what, the regular batteries in it still have juice. I just hit the button and it started. I have screwdriver bits of all kinds and drill bits of all sizes here in the house and more in the storage room. In storage room, I have a regular size drill that plugs in wall and one with rechargeable battery and Engineer says that one is a super good one. It has various attachments.
Husband was a maker of small things out of big things and big things out of smaller things - like big pieces of wood that turned into planters screwed into one side of the brick wall and wood planters in the garden and wood anything. When he built something, it was never coming apart. He built a ramp from the lower deck to upper deck (a rise of maybe 8 inches), built bridge over brick Riverwalk from upper deck across the Riverwalk to regular dirt garden. There are two collapsible work benches to use with saws and other electric and manual tools of all kinds in the storage room and every tool known to mankind is in there except for the big electric saws I left at his house.
In the house he had, he built the whole wall of the great room where the fireplace was, a wall that was two stories high, with special wood and made a design in the placement of every strip of wood.
I gave his son the big electric saws and stands for those saws of various kinds as I would have no use for them here. I have the smaller tools of all kinds, manual and electric.
So, I have all that, it is a matter of getting the parts together I need to do a job. I thought this work station was just a screwdriver job but it wasn't and I had mind freeze for a while before you and rightly began to talk about tools.
So glad you mentioned this little Black and Decker thing - I was thinking “drill” about it but when you said that, I realized it would work for a terrific screwdriver much better than my weak hands. I've already attached a Phillips head on it to use tomorrow. I can't do anymore today due to crummy lower back.
rightly, the Black and Decker one I have is not as fancy as the one at that link. It doesn’t change direction and it’s not rechargeable. It takes two AA batteries.
Wow, the one you have is really super. If there was anyone who gave me Christmas gifts, I’d tell them to get that one for me. It is not a powerful screwdriver, but on the other hand, It wont break your wrist when it stops. I thought it good for you, knowing you wrist may be fragile. That big monster one that I have almost breaks my wrist when it hits the end if I don’t slow down on time. It weighs so much I can’t hardly hold it up very long. It’s a real bear.
A lot of rechargeables are heavy, newer ones with Lithium-ion batteries are lighter, but being the latest big thing in cordless, are not cheap.
The gyroscopic action on the small one takes a little bit to co-ordinate. It just doesn’t act naturally.
Yes, I have small bones, wrists are small and not much power there. I wear a AAA shoe and that's down from the AAAA I wore growing up. Have had dentists complain that my mouth is so small, they have trouble getting a hand in there. I used to wonder why everyone finished a meal before I did, I was still eating, and their plates were clean. I can't get as much food in my mouth at one time like they can.
I can use any help I can get from devices to have more strength. That was one problem I had today with the screwdriver. I was using all the strength I had to turn and push the screwdriver and my hand/wrist was getting weaker with each turn/push of the screwdriver. I hate not having more strength.
Look on the bright side - if Obama’s cops get me and put on handcuffs, they are used to pushing them closed to a certain degree so maybe there would be enough blank space left for me to slide them off. :o)
Wow, dentists tell me the same thing. That's one reason I like getting knocked out at the Dentist. Sometimes, afterwards, the edges of my mouth where your top lip and bottom meet, will be all red, and hurt from them stretching it..
Ditto, on the eating thing, too. People always say, "it's because your talking, not eating", but I think it's that I'm not taking as big bites as they are.
That was one thing I liked about places in Europe where you can sit there eating for two hours, and nobody gives yout he bum's rush..
Once, a really rude waitress in Fredericksburg, TX kept trying to take my plate when I was still eating. After the second time, I told her if she did it again, I was going to stab her with my fork, and strangle her with my rosary.
Do you go to Fredericksburg, TX often? Somebody told us its THE place to visit in Texas. How does it compare to Gruene Tx in New Braunfel? Is it about the same just bigger? We have been to Gruene 4 times and always enjoy, but it is small.
