The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Thats worth a try.
way off topic, but very funny. A groom flubs his lines.
2:23 of your life that you will never get back. It’s Monday, we need something to lighten the day, right?

I guess I sympathize because I did it too.
Horse poo is good stuff. I use it by the ton on the veggie garden and orchard trees. It’s much easier to handle large quantities now that I have the loader tractor. The older I get the less I like the shovel.
I have seedlings in larger pots under the grow lamp but it's supposed to be 39 tonight and don't want to put them in greenhouse with that temp tonight. After tonight, we have 50s at night.
:)
I am thinking of sifting some of that good potting soil and using it to start the trombone squash and cukes.
Our water heater is leaking , got to buy another asap and have somebody put it in.
My wife went to the eye surgeon today and is going the schedule her cat surgeries in the next few weeks. She goes to a thyroid specialist fri to see about having a test done on a mass growing on it.
It’s always plenty going on around here.
I was glad to get some more T squash seed planted. Water heaters just have to be dealt with.
If she doesn’t take blood pressure medicine, her eye surgeries should be no problem.
Let me know what happens with the mass on the thyroid.
You know, s... happens.
We have that happening stuff about up to here-——like Maine has snow.
We are both falling apart faster than we can get patched and put back in service!
And this old 34 yo house aint helping any.
My printer is a HP 1200. It cost 50 bucks and I have been using it so long I can’t even remember, but it’s more than 7 years, I think.
Wow. You got a lot done. That’s a whole lot of poo!
Well, you did ask, so you got a lot of info. I knew that a glass canning jar would be better than my coffee can, but my medicine bottles wouldn’t all fit.
Our freezer was a frost free freezer, and the temps fluctuated enough that ice cream often melted to a very soft stage. Hence, I picked the extra refrigerator whose door is rarely opened, and where I had room.
If I ever have to save seeds for 10 years, I might have to change it thought and this info will certainly be of use for long term. Thanks for the research.
My dear old Dad was one that thought if he spent his hard earned money on something, that it should last forever. I guess I inherited some of that logic. I bought my used truck and my printer in 2000. Both are still going strong. LOL
I would like to have a nice new full featured printer, but can’t stand the thought of retiring one that still works! Maybe when it needs ink again!
Only 25 of the original tobacco made it. I’ve got 96 newer ones that I’ll put out in a month or so. Got the ac going it’s so warm here. Still no word on internet service.
Can’t garden here at the library, so I’m headed back to the house.

“Only 25 of the original tobacco made it.”
I have somewhere around 8-12 tobacco. Have 2 to 4 in a cup I need to transplant to medium size pot and have some in even larger pots in greenhouse, two-three to a pot and that’s why I’m not sure how many I have. I’m still waiting for those in the larger pots to start growing upwards with a definite stalk before I transplant.
I’ve replanted seed for the ones outside that didn’t make it since I finally got the right seed starter for me. I planted all those seed yesterday.
Today, I cleaned more off the deck under the roof so the white iron table and chairs on upper deck can be moved to lower deck - which we will do this afternoon and arrange all the containers. Taking the table and chairs off that upper deck leaves more room for plants and I have so many now I needed that space.
If you ever decide to get rid of the white iron table set, my wife would buy it. She has wanted one for a while but have not seen them locally.
“If you ever decide to get rid of the white iron table set”
I bought that on sale from somewhere in a Woodlands store a number of years ago and when you buy one you have it forever - it’s never going to wear out and you can’t say that about most everything.
A lot of stores now have “wood” outdoor furniture and that’s ridiculous - like you’re going to take them in and out every time you want to sit outside?
Well, we worked out there and now there are aisles to go up and down through the plants and he made sure every aisle is at least the width of my shoulders so I am firmly planted on my feet to go through the aisles. Cleaning up the deck with the roof couldn’t be done with him as there was so much stuff I couldn’t lift to move it to a better place.
I admire the strength a man has - wish I was that strong. Men are great, I’d like to have one or two and I might even feed them.
When we moved the big container on the dolly you made, I told him you made it for me. He thought it was well made so you have his approval of your wood working.
Thanks for the compliment on the dollie. It was built to be functional. As I said once before, I have toted that piece of plywood every for the last 35-40 years wondering what to with it. Plywood is not as good as that nowadays.
I got my shipment of stuff from my fav woodworking equipment supplier today. I almost could mot drag it into the shop. It has 6— 4” casters, 2 1/2” wide in cast iron, among other stuff. They must weight 10lbs each. My wife knows how much I like casters. With casters, you can move the world. LOL
I do have a heavy duty project for them, not just to collect casters!
That’s why I just kept babying this one even though it took spells of error messages and not printing. Now it just won’t even turn on, so I don’t feel too bad about getting something else.
Roots made in water remain 'water roots' and will NOT sustain growth when put in soil.
If trying to root plant cuttings for soil , go to a garden store and look for a product called " Rootone" (rooting hormone).
It's easy to use : fresh 45 degree cutting with sharp razor, dip cutting in water, shake off extra water , dip in the rooting hormone,
and place in a prepared hole in the starting medium, then slightly compress the soil arround the hole, add moisture to the medium gently .
Make sure the rooting hormone is FRESH for this year as it looses potency with age ; generally will remain potent for no longer than two years .
The rooting hormone can be used for 'soft' plant cuttings (flowers , veggies, etc.) ,
as well as 'hard' cuttings (ie: fruit trees, shrubs, brambles, vines , etc. ).
A hundred and a half will buy a decent printer now, I think.
Just a quick search, I found one that would suite me:
