The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

That’s great news about the rain. My old dinasaur computer will probably conk out one of these days too. My printer just quit last week.
We had a little electrical outage for a few hours. When the electricity came back on, the computer worked, but the printer won’t even turn on. I have checked all the cords and connections, and tried different electrical outlets, but it won’t turn on.
I had planned to go to Walmart today to get a cheapo printer, but it is 17 degrees and several inches of slick wet snow, so I am staying put and sipping tea.
LOL. Times change and so do we. That serves the same purpose as lumps in mashed potatoes - it breaks the monotony. LOL That was a favorite saying of my Granny’s chief cook at her restaurant.
Oh wow! you definitely got hit worse than we did! Sorry to hear about the computer problems. We recently had to have work done on ours, and it is a pain in the neck!
We just got back from a walk. The wind is very strong, and there was a very cold north wind blowing. Really had to bundle up! We had placed the new baby maters on the south side of the house, so as long as it doesn’t freeze they should be protected.

Our snowfall last night/early this morning caught me totally by suprise. Glad I resisted the urge to plant anything last week.
Johnny’s got rain now! Praise the Lord! I planted an early corn in 2010 - sunglow. IIRC, it was about 50 dtm. Had a really great flavor and tender.
Hubby planted Bantam last year. I think he waited too long to harvest it. It was kinda starchy and tough.
He won’t plant white corn, but I like white corn the best. So I usually wait until he has his stuff planted, and then plant mine later so that they are not pollinating at the same time, and I get as far away from his plot as I can.
Yep, instead of a trip to Walmart, I am going to continue with some spring cleaning, and rotation and inventory of the pantry.
The G-90 that my friend plants is mixed color.
QUESTON:
I have potatoes buried in containers with one growing stalk above surface. Do they need to be in full sun or can they be in some sun and shade? Need an answer to this so I can have engineer put them on deck or in net room.

LOL! Glad I’m resisting planting too! Just checked the weather, and projections are for temps to go down to about 27 degrees tonight! So the baby maters WILL come in shortly!

It’s too late for that charity fundraiser(they built 230) but I’m making it just for fun anyway. I’m doing it different than the page at the link, I am putting chalk board on one side, dry erase on the the other. I saw a number of them in Old Town Spring at Christmas being used on the sidewalks to advertize the daily specials at the shops, and liked them and decided then to make one. I just bought the boards last night, it may be a while before I build the easel($30, free shipping) We will take it when we go back to the Old Country sometime in a few months.
At least 6 hours/day of full sun, minimum; more is better.. OTOH, they do not like high heat & baking sunlight, so a bit of shade in the middle of the day when the the sun is most intense could benefit them.
We had those Reubens today. Yum. Tomorrow, corned beef hash.
No planting in the garden today, cold, wet and windy. Covered my container babies, thank you my lovely wife for caring for them when you filled bird feeders.
Have you tried switching the power supply cable out for a different one on the printer? Sometimes a power surge will just fry the cable, and not the device.

Did some yard work..not gardening, just picking up limbs, pulling weeds kinda stuff. Planted Penta seeds today, but, apparently I was supposed to plant them about a month ago. They're in the greenhouse. Planted two of my Aroma Romas I grew from seed, and I watered as the wind was just drying the moisture out of everything....
Still on my "to-do" list Take the scarecrow from fall off the front porch, take the Christmas lights down, and take the "let it Snow" wreath off the front door.
I always figure a horrible looking front porch deters burglars.
Not yet, I did think about it, but would have to go to Walmart to buy one. Have been having a lot of trouble with the printer anyway.
It has periods of not working and giving the message that the cartridge container won’t move. When I open the door, the cartridge does move. So I have to fiddle with it. Eventually it usually begins to work.
It also makes all sorts of noise like it’s about to break down. So I may just go ahead and get another one. Depends on how much they are.
For a while, I was buying cheapie Lexmark printers from Wally for $39, but they would die after two ink cartridge changes. I finally threw it and all the spare ink in the trash and went back to my HP. I was working at the time and had to lug around a laptop and printer all day, the HP was truly heavy, but trouble free. I have been using it ever since.
Pentas are pretty flowers, we had some before Texas.
I hope you get some rain soon.
It was windy here, and rained most of the weekend. My wife ventured outside a few times with the puppies and filled the bird feeders, but I never came close to going out, other than ride to HEB with my wife Sat morning.
My wife has decorations for every season. Various wreaths for the doors, mantle and bar top decorations too, along with top of bookcase and small tables. Oh, the dining table too. We always have cut flowers on the dining tables, even if they have to come from HEB, which has a great floral dept.
