Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines
that is my number one... The Spirit of St. Louis... and second on my list is Flight Angels (1940), a cheesy movie about pilots and stewardesses with a very young Jane Wyman...
Yep....all of them. Seems the writer or those questioned weren’t that old. [BTW, I did have 12 O’clock High]
“The War Lover”
“Strategic Air Command”
A CROWDED SKY and what was the one about the british COMET and the decompression issues?
How about Strategic Air Command starring Jimmy Stewart. While acting is good but not extraordinary there’s shots of the B-36 that are. If you’re a plane buff this is a must watch.
Don’t you like Snakes on a Plane? I don’t read much enthusiasm in your post. *CHUCKLE*
Bfl
Reminds me of one of the times Robert Klein did a stand up routine on the Tonight Show, when Johnny Carson was host. He said, ever notice in those old airplane movies when the plane looks like it’s gonna crash and the pilot miraculously makes a safe landing and everyone on board survives, all the passengers cheer. What do they do if it crashes, BOO?!?
So many good ones listed by FReepers.
But Top Gun number one? Hell Soul Plane would be better.
The scene where Lorna Patterson is singing to the sick little girl, and pulls out her intravenous tube when she swings the guitar around, is one of the funniest scenes ever filmed!
What No!
1. Twelve O’Clock High (1949)
2. Fate Is the Hunter (1964)
3. The High and the Mighty (1954)
4. Airport (1970)
Thumbs UP!
Memphis Belle
Another REALLY early “stewardess” film recently came out on dvd... entitled “Air Hostess” (1933), and starring Evalyn Knapp in the title role. Really rare film, made at Columbia, and never really circulated on television.
Interesting vintage footage of passenger planes and airports, circa 1933. Beautifully re-mastered with an incredibly sharp print. But not a particularly good film, unfortunately.
Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines
Airport(original)
The Blue Max
The Great Waldo Pepper
The Pilot
Bullitt
The Aviator
Twelve O’Clock High
Exactly! Forget Airplane movies, Dr. Strangelove is one of the top ten movies of all time.
Whaaaaa!?!
No “Snakes”?
Bogus List!!!
