CONGRATULATIONS AFRAID FOR THE REPUBLIC 55 YEARS OF MARRIED BLISS
All this kimchi talk made me think (especially since it was a gorgeous day) I needed to make a trip to Tim’s Asian market.
Thursday is the day they get their veggies in from Houston, and baked goods from the Filipino Bakery. I bought some of those big beautiful steamed buns-siopao- and discovered they have a fabulous pork filling inside.
I got more gochujang-hot pepper paste, and dangmyeon- sweet potato starch noodles, and some toy choi, since I let all mine bolt. I also bought one of those things with five sharp blades for slicing scallions lengthwise. It looks like you could really hurt yourself with it..
I also went to Restaurant Depot, and bought some Asian Cooking stuff there..Oh, and I bought 25 lbs of those big “juicer” carrots..I will be making lots of carrot noodles with my triblade slicer/zoodler thingie.
I have no idea what all these Asian food stuffs are (and I don’t care). If I can grow “American” food, that’s it.

Happy Valentine to all, even to those without a mate, somebody or Somebody, somewhere, loves you, even if it is just a 5lb Yorkie. ;)
Lol, that is why I put both the Americanized Korean name, and what the food is next to it.
BTW, I can't think of anywhere else I can get 5 lbs of shelled whole cashews for 8 bucks, or 5 lbs of shelled peanuts for 5 bucks than at an Asian Grocery Store.
Also, I like stir frying, especially in the summer when my kitchen gets too hot to cook..
Went out to my little Texas Prepper's Greenhouse this am, and see my carrots, spinach, and lettuce are all up...exciting stuff.
I will move some little dixie cups of stuff that were under the grow lamp out there for a few days while the weather is nice here.
That is an excellent price for those nuts.
Stir fries are my thing. It’s fast and wholesome. I buy bags of frozen stir fries and hope I will be able to grow veggies to use my own in stir fries.
I like all the different Asian noodles that are made from non wheat flour. It's fun trying out the different ones made from sweet potatoes, quinoa, beans, rice, Almost any grain/veggie you can think of, it's been "flourized", and made into a noodle.
There was a big old bag of noodles/veggies for making soup for less than two dollars. At HEB, their "soup kits" in the produce section are nine bucks last time I checked prices.
My 25# bag of big honker carrots at Restaurant Depot was 8 dollars, and at the wholesale produce market here, they are 59 cents a lb. Fifty pork veggie potstickers were five bucks for a 32 oz bag, and at HEB they are $21.99 for 42 oz of potstickers. Of course, when I'm not lazy, and make my own, it's cheaper.
Are those prices typical of most asian markets? Obviously I haven’t been in one. I searched yesterday to find one kinda close, but no go. There are several big ones in Megatrpolis, 50 miles south of here. My old truck does not do well at highway speeds, so I don’t get out on the Interstates to go places.

The only one I have shopped regularly is Tim's. It has great service, selection, and prices. There is a Korean one I'd like to check out, but it's on the ENE side of San Antonio fifteen miles further, and Tim's is closer. Even though Tim's is not some Asian Superstore,it has tons of stuff, and I could easily spend a couple of hours there.
Since his Asian veggies come from Houston, I would think you would find better prices there, plus it has a larger Asian populace than San Antonio.
All the windows and patio doors in the back face south west. If we enclosed one of the back yard patio spaces, a part of it would have southern exposure.
It’s not in the realm of possibility right now, but it’s a nice dream. In the interim, I have a window that has to be replaced, and I could probably spend a little extra and make it a garden window for some of the smaller heat lovers.
Have you tried growing your own peanuts yet? I did the summer before last. They practically took over a whole raised bed! The birds loved the greens after I pulled the peanuts up.
No, I grew up hearing from Jerry Parsons "never compost with peanut shells. You'll get root knot nematodes", so, I've always been terrified of anything to do with peanuts near a garden.
