I think what we really ought what conservatives ought to do is say if you cant feed a family on this, and as a result of our lousy recovery a lot of people are depending on this wage, then I think for people who are the bread winners in a family, it ought to be raised.
...I think for people who are the bread winners in a family, it ought to be raised.
Because I do think if somebody is the only wage earner in the family, I think it would be humane to raise it to a level where they can cover their expenses.

Thank God Kraut doesn’t have a vote in the House or Senate.
I have a single daughter,no children, who has been in the workforce for 25 years.
She says the ones with kids get much more leeway than those without children(tardiness, early release for snow etc.)and she doesn’t think it’s quite fair.
Krauthammer’s idea is ridiculous.

QE slso supports sending the economy to Halifax in a handcart.
sneakers?what about the tattoos?
Stupidity run rampant.
I missed that one, did Buchanan actually suggest that in a serious tone or was it sarcastically? I have a hard time imagining him seriously proposing such an absurdity.
That’s very hard to believe.
Yup. Money is not value, money is the representation of value. Exchanging money is just a convenient way to exchange value. All other things equal, a gallon of gas will always be worth about 20 minutes of mundane anyone-can-do-it labor, regardless of whether the latter is paid at $1/hr, $7/hr, $15/hr or $100/hr. The only advantage a minimum wage increase has for workers is the brief stretching of elastic momentum, improving buying power until all other interconnected prices normalize again.
People talk about a “gold standard” etc. The dollar is based on a “mundane labor standard”.
If they can't find work at $7/hr, they surely won't find it at $10, or $15/hr..
But that's the whole liberal idea...if they can't find work, it surely isn;t their fault, therefore we ( the US gummint) have to give them a living allowance..
Kraut needs to aquaint himself with Milton Friedman.
I missed or forgot that one. Shifting welfare to employers; yea, that will improve the economy.
Your daughter doesn't have to cook and clean for three...doesn't have to take 3 kids to the doctor...doesn't have to go to sport events...deal with teachers...worry about an asthma attack.
Your daughter goes on kid free vacations...spends all her money on herself...Am I supposed to be sympathetic towards your daughter?? Ridiculous...Children come with a responsibility...Your daughter has no such responsibility.
One of my past jobs paid the full health insurance bill for single or employees with families. That meant the company was paying about $1200 more to employees with families. Us single employees proposed a cafeteria plan, so that we could apply the disparity to some other benefit, to no avail.
“I used to question why the military gave married men with wives and children extra pay and allowances.”
Army Vet. That annoyed me, too! And don’t get me started on the smoke breaks! Yeesh! I was the only one that didn’t smoke, so I held down the fort for 20 out of every 60 minutes of the day, while everyone else smoked and joked.
Of course, they’re all dead now. *SMIRK*
Who is going to be responsible for checking? What proof is going to be required? Who is going to investigate fraud?
The real problem is that there are not enough jobs. But America is employing hundreds of millions of Chinese with all the Chinese products we buy. We should raise the import tariffs and bring some of that manufacturing back to America.
A 10% increase in import tariffs would allow a $1500 per worker tax cut. Government revenues would still soar as the 23% unemployed go back to work. And with a huge tax cut we'd have a lot more money to spend, helping American businesses of all kinds.
Krauthammer has gone full marxist; “to each according to his needs”.
Bless his heart. May God forgive me, but I believe paralysis has moved into Kraut’s brain!
—looked serious in context to me—
This will just add to the single parent/backdoor daddy welfare scam. Aren’t these same low wage family supporting people getting food stamps and EIC already?
