Hey, Gary!

A comedy bit. Not sure if he really feels that way but how about the line about how we left being taxed by the British to pay high taxes quite willingly.

Gary, I am not responsible for your feelings, nor is any other American.

We beat them in two wars and took a continent away from them, and a once-a-year feast hurts their feelings??

I’m sure that the real problem is that we don’t eat halal food at Thanksgiving.

The American left has been working very hard to completely undo the war for independence. They have their own culture war for dependence instead.

I’m pretty sure that Gary Oldman is an out of the closet conservative, or more conservative than not, or at the very least not a liberal.

Actually, most of the War of 1812, the British thumped the Americans, because instead of continuing to fight them in an unconventional matter, America tried using a green, conventional army against their seasoned soldiers. This generally doesn’t work.

However, Britain’s war goals were muddled. They knew they couldn’t conquer America, so it was more a punitive expedition, America resenting its sailors being cashiered as near slaves on British warships, to fight the French navy, and fighting the British about it. Then the whole thing became moot because of Napoleon Bonaparte getting thumped in Russia and turning back to the West.

It was settled with the Treaty of Ghent, which likely fewer than one in a hundred thousand Americans have ever heard of. The British have even less interest in it, seeing it as a minor sideshow to the Napoleonic wars.

Probably the biggest losers were the eastern Indian tribes, who the long-memoried Andrew Jackson eventually ethnically cleansed as punishment for supporting the British.

They not only eat, they’re closing the fat gap between them and us. Personal observation. Hopefully, this is one area where we Americans can still lead the world. Unfortunately, too many Brits are following the American example of eating to excess. The way things are going they’ll soon achieve parity. Mr. President, I demand we expand (no pun intended) the fat gap and keep those pushy Brits in second place.

It's obviously meant as a joke! I would be floored if he was even remotely serious about this.

Well, everyone has their own opinion, but I couldn't disagree more. I think Oldman a fine actor, and one of the thing I've noticed is I often don't realize it's him for a while because he plays the character, unlike so many actors who just play themselves no matter what role they are in.
