In the old days one could call the cops to teach their child a lesson, but I would not recommend it these days.

What kind of kid rams a cop car and revs his engine when asked to turn it off?
Horrible loss of life, but this kid was destined for what based on this behavior? Did this kid love his weed or other drugs, why this behavior?

There is no problem that can’t be made worse than by calling the cops.

Entitlement will get ya killed. And it doesn’t matter if you are regular criminal or someone’s boy throwing a temper tantrum.

Called the cops to teach the son a lesson. Cops let him down. What are the odds he calls the vigilantes to teach the cops lesson? Folks are getting tired of the stories of dog shootings, beat downs, tazings for sexual favors, no hesitation targets, etc, etc, etc. At some point, good citizens are going to push back.

Only call the cops if:
Something is stolen or vandalized and you need a report number for insurance. Don't expect your property to be recovered.
You are in genuine fear for your life and you are completely out of other options. No access to weapons or ammo, no path to retreat/escape/evade, etc.
You have resolved a life-threatening issue and you are legally required to notify the police to come make a report, take a statement, draw the chalk outline(s) and haul away the body or bodies.
Other than that, in my experience adding law enforcement to a situation makes it worse.

(I'm betting on an Obama Trifecta: A Nobel Peace Prize, an Impeachment, AND a War Crimes Trial...)
Once again a misleading headline.
He was not killed over cigarettes or his father’s attempt to teach him a lesson, he was killed as a direct result of his own aggressive actions that endangered the lives of other people.
This is no different than a headline saying Trayvon was shot walking home, when of course he was shot while he was actively beating up a person he had pinned to the ground.
When will we ever get accurate headlines in these stories? The biased opinions of readers starts right with the headline that helps to lead them to the wrong understanding of an event.

I know the young man's attitude has changed, I wonder if his father's attitude has changed.

Just proves the adage that “there is no bad situation that can’t be made worse by involving cops.” Good work, Dad.

To: Rusty0604
I don't always take the cops side, but after watching this video, that kid was a dangerous asshole. Repeatedly ramming the cops, driving like a psycho through residential neighborhoods and a city park full of people. He had absolutely no care about anybody he could have killed.
Dad called the cops for a reason - the kid was out of control and dangerous.
Good shooting, in my book. If he was aiming that truck at me, I'd have shot him in a heartbeat.
