The workforce is even more stratified by race than you'd imagine. The differences in unemployment rates, participation rates, and average earnings between whites, blacks, and Hispanics aren't just stark. They're also sturdy, rarely yielding over the last 40 years.
The racial gaps are stark at the job level, too.
Whites account for about 81 percent of the workforce. But there are 33 occupations counted by the BLS (particularly those on farms, around heavy machines, in doctor's offices, and in C-suites) where whites officially account for nine in ten of all workers, or more. Here they are.

So there is a disparity between the 81 percent white in population vs 90 per cent whites in certain jobs? What about the disparity between 13% blacks and whatever the % is overall - it’s 75 to 80 %black letter carries in Chicago, and they should be getting combat pay. As Twain said, “there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.”
Friends daughter applied for a job at top Boston Enviro firm. She was white and they told her outright that they never hired blacks.
She was shocked out of her leftist mind.

I worked in construction in a rural ski area. Many of the construction people came from the big city for the work, but there were no blacks among them. My theory? Big cities are good for ‘shopping,’ safe, great government-dependency distribution centers. Once in a great while we’d get a construction clean-up crew in, up from the city. There was a lot of fear in that group - fear of the dogs on the site, fear of the weather, discomfort with the tasks.

My dad once worked for a company in a rural Pennsylvania county. They did contract work for the Federal Government. Thus they were always under the microscope for diversity hiring.
They tried and tried and tried to hire black people. Frankly none of them wanted to venture out there from the city. Lots of reasons you mentioned, but basically they did not feel very comfortable out there.
They did hire one black secretary. After giving her many, many chances they had to let her go because she could never answer the bell on Monday mornings after her hard weekend partying routine.
What’s the percentage of white writers at place like The Atlantic?
