Doctors with black patients need to think twice before indulging in humor, as a Tennessee doctor recently learned:
A Mid-South woman has filed a complaint with the Tennessee Department of Health after she said the doctor she went to see for back pain gave her an insulting diagnosis.
He said I know what the problem is. Its ghetto booty, said 55-year-old Terry Ragland about what she was told by Dr. Timothy Sweo in April.
I think I blacked out after he said ghetto booty. I think my mind was just stuck on the phrase because I couldnt believe he said that, said Ragland.

Sir Mix-A-Lot would approve.

The doctor could have told her simply “you have a fat ass”.
I was going to post an illustrative picture of ghetto booty but was grossed out.
Sometime the truth hurts.
Go ahead, just be sure to ad “wide load” on it.
The grossest part...someone has probably had sex with her.
One of my buddies had a patient, a little black kid, who fell and hurt his coccyx (tailbone). Was showing the parents the xray and explaining it to them. The mom pointed to the xray and asked “whats that?”. My friend said, “ thats the coccyx, or “tail bone”. A long time ago that would have developed into a tail, like what monkeys have”.
A couple of days latter, called into the directors office for “official counseling” on a patient complaint. Mother had called stating “the doctor insulted my child, called him a monkey, he’s a racist”. Best part, my colleague was as liberal a Jew as has existed, outside of Woody Allen. After that, he was just a little less liberal....
Is that Michelle?
gross! there’s NO WAY that picture is real.
I have friends who had to answer patient complaints and apologize when they advised obese patients with joint pain or shortness of breath to lose weight. We don’t have patients anymore, we have “customers”.
I heard a story of a black boy whose catholic school teacher (a nun) called him “cute as a monkey”. She did not mean anything by it, in some places folks use that expression just like I’ve heard “cute as a button” although I never understood that one either. He complained to his mom and the nun got in trouble. I really think blacks walk around with a chip on their shoulder.
Ahh, the old hurt-feelings, shame-and-embarrassed, emotional-distress shakedown.
Will an “apology” make her feel better (even if it doesn’t do anything about reducing the size of her rear end), or will it take money to make her feel all better?
An advanced case
I’m sure money is the answer -
Doctor say I gotta fat ass! Show me da Benjamins!
Baby Got Back!
My wife has had off and on weight problems over the years and normally doesn’t take offense when told that she needs to lose some weight to ease knee problems. Some doctors do use it as a cover-all for whatever the problem is and that does aggravate her.
