I need some prayers and good thoughts since my mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer and we are just beginning to fight it. She goes for a PET scan tomorrow and also to an oncologist to get meds to shrink the cancer. She also has a good doctor, some friends and acquaintances have the same one and many women have kicked it with her help plus the doctors say, "don't worry, we have many ways to fight it." Many thanks to all.

Thanks All!
BTW, she gets her next chemo, a stronger dose, on June 3rd, she has to have blood work every week though. Hopefully we will get this to shrink, she has inflammatory breast cancer, it can be aggressive but we have two oncologists working with her and he held our hands and said, "don't worry about how bad it is, just concentrate on beating it and shrinking it down for surgery." He added, "prayer will help too." She did have trouble with nausea and pain but now she's eating more and keeping it down, heck, she's been hungry like crazy in the last few days. She wanted Long John Silvers fish so bad too, she ate that up. The pain, she's on percoset until we start shrinking this down. I'm still scared, heck, we would not be human if we were not, but most people I talk to says there are lots of ways to fight this. I even talked to a former record keeper with the oncologist she goes to, she needs blood work too, I think she is managing her leukemia, she told me that older women do battle breast cancer very well. Overall I hear that generally speaking, breast cancer has an 80% survival rate. She'll get chemo every three weeks. Her last pet scan on May 9th from what we know just shows it contained in the breast area along with a few lymph nodes under the arm but we have Oncologist #2 looking at it too. If it stays contained and I hope it does, hopefully there will be less problems.
Just wanted to say thanks to all and give a quick update. We plan to watch "Svengoolie" tonite on MeTV, "The Mummy's Curse," we refer to it as "killing a few brain cells" for humor. Hopefully continuing the humor, which is also needed, if they take a few cancer cells with them, that would be good. B-)

Thank you so much for keeping us informed! What a blessing that both of you have a good, positive attitude. Prayers continue...

You’re welcome! We are both watching “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.” BTW, It is recommended that during chemo to eat small meals, 4 to 6 times a day so we’ve been doing that. Sometimes an orange here, a sandwich there and so on.

Excellent!!! Hugs to both of you!

Thanks for posting that update. She is fortunate to have such a loving, caring son like you. That’s good news that it was contained in one area - glad to hear that!

Well, a quick update. We had great news but one small setback. The Pet scan showed something under Mom's right arm and the first onologist thought it was cancer but it turned out to be an infected cyst according to the second oncologist we have seen. It broken open so the next day, Mom saw the second oncologist and he drained it some but she has to get it lanced tomorrow by a general surgeon plus she is taking sulfa for it now. We tried to get her beast doctor to do it but she is on vacation. So the first oncologist thought she had early Stage IV but the second one says Stage III so that is some good news too. The downside is that it pushed her second chemo back a week.
Mom wanted to get her chemo closer to home so that is why we went to a second oncologist plus it is a good idea to go for a second opinion anyhoo. I think is many cases, there is a reluctance to use anti-biotics unless it is needed due to the problems they are having now.
Well, tonight, we fire up the 1982 Zenith to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins. B-) I hope they win tonight, they didn't do so well Saturday, she is a big Pens fan. BTW, one more thing, the first chemo seems to be have some positive affects too.

What a relief that it turned out to be a benign cyst. So glad to hear your mother is doing well. Prayers continue...

Well, we had a little bit of a setback, Mom’s port for chemo did not work today so we had to go to the hospital to have a “pick” inserted so she can get her chemo tomorrow. Mom was bummed out that she could not get the chemo today and it was a bit rough inserting the pick but at least she should get back on track tomorrow although I’d like to know why the port did not work. What concerned me the most is it kind of upset her.

Quick update. Mom had her picks put in her other arm and she received her second chemo today. No problems. Got to go back tomorrow for a follow up injection. She feels a lot better today and was very hungry during and after chemo.
