Driver charged with going 139 MPH

Stonington — A Quaker Hill man was charged with reckless driving Saturday after police say he drove 139 miles per hour on Interstate 95.

Stewart V. Williams, 25, of [Adress redacted by Moi --TSR], Quaker Hill, was charged with reckless driving, greater than 85 mph.

According to State Police, Williams was traveling northbound near exit 92 when a trooper used a laser clock to read the speed of his 2012 Audi R8 at 139 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour zone. Williams was stopped and taken into custody. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at GA 10 in New London on May 17.

yeah nothing like getting the vette up above 150. it just begs for more. I hope I never get caught. $500 and a arrested doesn't sound like any fun.

What,my experiences or the ones of that German cop? Sorry *I* don't have any photos to show you but...remember the picture of the dead jihadi from Boston that's been on the web? Well,*I* have seen people come in after an MVA (motor vehicle accident) that looked 10 times worse than that even before the surgeons went to work (the jihadi was photographed *after* surgical intervention).And as for the cop...he either did,or didn't,patrol the Autobahn.If he did...for any length of time...I have *no* problem believing his story given what *I've* seen result from accidents at 70mph.

And as for bikes...anyone with the most basic understanding of physics can easily imagine what might happen to a rider involved in an accident at 70mph....or even 40mph.

He’s got me; best I ever did was 115 in my 1972 Mustang Mach I on I 465 in the wee hours of the morning. It had more to give but the Ford steering was so bad, I was starting to drift between lanes. That was enough for me.

I have seen that happen to a Mustang. I had a guy in a 70's era Mustang II trying to keep up with my Saab Turbo in Oklahoma. At 105, he had a hard time tracking his lane. I pushed it to 140 and he quickly disappeared from view.

In rural desert areas I regularly see how fast the rental car can go in the US.

Funny. I used to travel a lot for work. Whenever you turn in a rent-car, they always ask if there is anything wrong with the car. I always answered "It doesn't go fast enough."

Even medium-priced Euro cars are indeed designed to do 100mph and remain stable. I believe a lot of Americanized Euro cars (like the smaller Buicks that are actually Opel designs) are altered for more sedate American highways.

Did 120 in an 83 (? +/-)ford escort 4 cylinder manual transmission with one other guy. Took me 2 miles downhill to get up to speed and 1/2 mile to stop. Thought the doors were going to rattle off and fly away. Boy was I out of my mind...

Similar experience back in high school with a 74 Malibu. Buried the needle at 120MPH. That thing was all over the road.

Some years later I was riding with a friend on his Ninja. He hit 130. At the next light, I hit him square on the back for doing that. That's just too fast for me on two wheels.

But last summer I hit 150 at the NASCAR experience at Texas Motor Speedway. THAT was fun!!!

Drove 165 in a friend’s Pantera across Alligator Alley from Naples to Ft. Lauderdale in 1972 when it was only a 2-lane.....really thankful The Lord looks out for fools, children, idiots and drunks cause I was a fool that day and one little gator crossing the road - which they frequently did back then - would have nailed me.

Oh, yeah. I’ve been the other 3 in the past too.......

Oh,my bro in Naples drove a new R8 and R10 at those speeds last week at Audi’s invitation - but it was on a closed course track.......
