Problem with Gently is that I'm having trouble finding Seasons 5 and 6. They are currently filming 7 now in Durham, England. Netflix only has the first four. Does anyone know how to get BBC broadcasts or of some other site like Netflix that might have these programs. Also, any other recs for really good shows like these? Thanks FREEPERS! MM

I vote for Sherlock although there are only a few episodes.
Wallander is outstanding it stars Kenneth Branagh as a Swedish detective.
I love Midsomer Murders and all of the Agatha Christie based series including the more obscure “Partners in Crime” series featuring Tommy & Tuppence.
I find myself watching more and more of the British shows and less and less of anything else.

Try Sherlock. Your local library may have the DVDs for free so you can try it out and see if you like it; there are six episodes so far (each episode is about 1 1/2 hours long).

I am currently watching REBUS which follows the books of Ian Rankin. Have also enjoyed: Luther, Inspector Lewis, Thomas Lynley stories and many more.
Thanks for the thread. I will check out some of the other Brit shows recommended here.

If you can find it, Pulaski TV Detective. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092431/
Brit show from the 80’s. A&E ran it back then and I video taped it. Tapes have since gone bad, but need to find it on DVD.

Welcome to the club genre... Foyle’s War is a great start. Another recommendation in the pre-WW2 era are all the Poirot episodes. Modern day selections I've enjoyed are Case Histories and Inspector Lewis. You can get some of these off youtube and rent others via Amazon.

Thanks for posting this thread..I saved it for future reference. Thanks to all who gave suggestions
PS
Isn’t a spoiler someone who tells the ending before the show airs in all time zones the day of the show’s airing?

My mom and I love Inspector Lynley, Vera & Inspector Lewis, Dalziel & Pascoe. For British/Scottish/Irish cop shows there’s Taggart & Murphy’s Law.
